Krystallnacht and Jim Crow aren’t exactly the same as each other, the Jim Crow laws were official, while Krystallnacht, the Klan (of the 1930s and earlier), and the Zimbabwean “war veterans” are symptoms of thuggery directed against a minority population with the unofficial but tacit support of the local governments.
Race is irrelevant to the issue. Give a mob the ability to smash, destroy, assault, rape and kill, with no threat of punishment (in fact, the mob feels they have authority’s approval) and any group of people can be turned on any other group. Even fairly monolithic cultures can be caught up in orgies of destruction, i.e. the Cambodians, once law and order becomes irrelevant and a citizen’s continued existance is at the whim of the strongman of the moment.
