Apparently I need to stop on the way home and get a rechargeable battery and silicone sleeve to maintain super hubby status. Maybe then I’ll get to play with it.
Play with what, the Wii Fit or with your wife?

I am considering getting Wii Fit, but one thing I am concerned about is space in my living room, which is sadly fairly small. If I move the coffee table out of the way (which I would have to), there is probably about 5 - 5 1/2 feet of floor space between my couch and entertainment center. So, in order to do exercises that require laying down on the floor, I would probably have to do them perpendicular to the TV, or else the board would be pressed up against the entertainment center (I’m thinking of something like push-ups here).

Can you do stuff facing 90 degrees away or do you always need to face the screen? If the latter, I think I’m not going to be able to use it ☹

Heh, the Fit, though I understand your confusion. 🙂

Anyway, neither item was available at our local Gamestop, so I got points for trying. We’ll get the battery eventually, but she wants the sleeve because the board is hard and rough on her feet. I tend to think she’s just particularly soft right now and her feet will toughen up, but I’m interested to hear if others have the same problem.

As for me, I put in my 30 minutes and got a decent light workout. I look forward to putting in more time today.

You don’t always need to face the screen. It’s spoken aloud and the sync works fine if it’s pointing in a different direction. I’ve tried it.
So it sounds like you guys are having good experiences of these things?

I’m kinda surprised, because the TV ads make it look like Wii _Shit_ - showing people gingerly transferring weight from one foot to the other, or timidly stepping on and off.
The things seem to take a beating fairly well - while you don’t jump on it, I’ve done so accidentally (on the tightrope) and while the console complains, it bore no damage. The step exercises are fairly vigorous - step on it, kick with the other foot, and so on.

I’ve used it a lot already with no issues, and I have an… ahem, ample frame.

Well, we finally got it. The girlfriend’s Wii Fit Age is a number that I cannot repeat. She tried it again and now it’s 27. She’s 25. I got a 24 my first try (with no second try). I’m actually 27.
My Mii is really fat. BMI doesn’t take muscle into account.

Yeah, my third day it said I’d gained 1.5 pounds and wanted to know if I knew a reason. I wanted an option that said “duh, I’m female and it’s time to bloat, so bite me”.

But since I didn’t have that option, and I don’t recall any of the others seeming appropriate, I went with “I don’t know”.

But 4 days straight with workouts - yay for me!

It is 330 pounds ☹

And frankly it’s a little emberassing.. because when I stepped on it, I was given a uncomfortable “Unh” from the game. After a moment a high pitched “Woooah” followed by the words telling me, “Get off fat ass.”

Nothing better than a machine to point out all of our flaws.

I just got this via their website - well, I’m not counting my chickens yet, so to speak, but I got the initial confirmation E-mail. I also ordered Resident Evil 4 for my husband.

As a new Wii owner, what else should I be looking at getting? A second nunchuk? (We’ve never owned Nintendo products before so we don’t have the Mario or Zelda fandom; we owned Sony PS/PS2 and before that a Sega Genesis.)

Mario Kart. Super Monkey Ball. That’s it. Don’t start playing Zelda with this iteration. Wait for the next one.

**Ferret Herder** , you don’t need a 2nd nunchuck since one nunchuck comes in the box with the console. It doesn’t look like you are getting a 2nd controller though, which is strange–a 2nd nunchuck is useless without the controller. If you don’t have 2 controllers, get a game called Wii Play–it’s got some fun little mini-games (I like the billiards game, and my family loves the cow racing) and it comes with a “free” controller (the game is only $10 more than the controller itself, and I think it’s worth that, at least.)

The game asks you why you’ve gained weight? WTF? Maybe you just haven’t taken your daily crap yet.

I know! Especially since it informed me about the normal fluctuation.

That said, this morning it said I was down 2.2 lbs - I’ll see if the fluctuation has it up a little tomorrow and if so, report back on what the options are to choose.

Got ours on Thursday, and played for a while. I found the soccer game almost impossible, but skiing felt pretty normal. The check-in process was, well… memorable. After I weighed in, my Mii character plumped up, and looked at me sadly. I’ve been meaning to shed some weight, but now I feel guilty. Not about me, but about my Mii (poor little guy).

It’s a sad state of affairs when my game console suggests I’d be better off if I lost eight pounds.

Somewhere, Douglas Adams is looking down and laughing.

Ferret Herder: Wii Play for a second wiimote. Get a second nunchuck to pair with it.
Raving Rabbits, 1 for solo, 2 for party play, whichver is more appropriate to you.
Boom Blox, from Stephen Spielberg. It’s simple, but insanely fun. (As in, people who play games for a living dropped Grand Theft Auto 4 to play this.)
Mario Kart, sure. I like Excite Truck better, but I play solo. If you get Excite Truck, get the Wii Wheel, it does help despite just being a piece of plastic.
Maybe you want a nice golf game, if you like golf. Tiger Woods is good, and so is Super Swing Golf.
I like Super Smash Brothers Brawl. You may not. But it’s fun.
