The World Wildlife Fund issued a [statement](http://www.worldwildlife.org/who/media/press/2009/WWFPresitem13540.html)on Tuesday condemning the ad, which was apparently part of an unauthorized campaign. ---

Shit, remember when Dunkin’ Donuts got in trouble for making a poster that had a dragonfly approaching two cups of iced coffee that sorta kinda made some jittery people think of September 11, although the reason Dunkin’ Donuts would _want_ people to think of September 11 when they thought about its drinks was never explained? Times have changed I guess. At least for this Brazilian agency. Might I suggest waxings for the people who made this? What a crass and exploitative ad. It’s distasteful and the insensitive imagery more than drowns out the message. ---

Ad agencies often do “edgy” crazy ads as a pitch to a prospective client, and somehow the ads always end up leaked and cause a furor like this. Anytime you see an ad that has you going “WtF?” consider the possibility that it’s leaked unauthorized concept art and don’t lynch the company that looks to be using it quite yet. Anyone can make up a fake ad. ---

Didn’t get to see the video, but it sounded out of character for the WWF. Can anyone think of any other particularly edgy campaigns they’ve done? And no wrestling jokes. Don;t get me wrong, all of [these](http://thedesigninspiration.com/articles/50-creative-wwf-campaigns-that-make-you-think-twice/) are very creative, but I don’t recall them having any PETA-like controversies. ---

The ad showed CGI planes hitting CGI Twin Towers. Screen went black and text something like "On Sept 11 2xxx(can’t remember the # they used) people died in one of the most tragic event in history Change to text about 250,000 dying from the SE Asian tusami. CGI of LOTS of planes heading for NY Text. “Nature is powerful. Respect it” That’s approx. but close. ---

**Freudian** , the ad showed an animation of two planes flying into WTC, then another dozen or so swooping in in an apparent attempt to continue the mayhem. It mentions that 2819 (I think) were killed on 9/11 but that the Dec 26th tsunami a couple of years ago killed 280,000, a hundred times as many. It says the planet is powerful and must be respected, etc. To me, even with the offensiveness aside, their (glad to see it’s just the ad agency’s) premise and line of reasoning was a little… flawed. ETA: See I’m late to the show. ---

Yeah, aside from the horrible taste this is definitely a problem with the image. According to the article in the OP, the white text included “The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.” I thought I remembered the word “Conserve” showing up in there, but it’s definitely a conservation message. ---
