FWIW- I think they were a little hard on Phantom Menace and Blair Witch. ## Both were decent movies, overhyped sure but really very good I thought. Not like Showgirls thats a bad movie. “The Phantom Menace” was an awful, AWFUL movie! Did Lucas forget that those of us who made the first “Star Wars” a huge hit are now in our 30s? Why the hell did he aim this new movie at 8 year-olds? That said, was Sofia Coppola really in “The Phantom Menace”? Stephen ---

Why? Because movies for 8 year olds make more money (parents + kids tickets), the original trilogy (all three movies) were directed at 8 year olds to much success and adoring. And finally, 8 year olds buy toys and merchandise and will live to be fans for 22 more years than 30 year olds. I’m not sure if these are the actual Razzies, or Sterlings take on it, but most are pretty ridiculous. Basically its the typical banter bashing the “popular” movies that got the press, hey, negativity sells papers and gets you remembered, right? In the end no real insight into whats good or bad, just whats trendy to make fun of. Star Wars: Episode I wasn’t bad, Jake Lloyd _was_ bad. Blair Witch wasn’t bad, just overhyped, which it deserved for being relatively unprecedented in many ways from budget to stlye. Big Daddy was a goofball comedy, get some perspective. Many of the others I didn’t see, but I know they aren’t as bad as much of what I’ve seen on cable, maybe not worth $8 at the theater, but worst is a silly choice of words…change it to overhyped and overrated and we can talk. ---

Granted, I didn’t feel it wise to spend $7 and a night out with my hubby watching _Big Daddy_ in the theater. However, I did thoroughly enjoy it when I saw it on pay-per-view. I have reserved judgement on _Phantom Menace_ until the next movie comes out and I see if this is going to make a good trilogy or if the magic had ended. I really like _The Blair Witch Project_. I know a lot of people went in expecting a traditional horror film and felt robbed because what they got reminded them more of a home movie. But I think it was great and it scared me. That being said, I think the Razzies are kind of the non-intellectual’s version of a National Lampoon’s Academy Awards. * * * I have a hobby. I have the world’s largest collection of seashells. I keep it scattered on beaches all over the world. Maybe you’ve seen some of it.
