# The Worst of Muzak

Of all the inventions and ideas of the Twentieth Century, Muzak has to be among the worst. Take a good (or not so good) song, Kenny G-ify it, and unleash it on the masses via supermarkets, elevators, and “hold” buttons on the telephone.

Of all these poor songs that have been put in front of a firing squad, which has to be the worst? Not the worst song in its original incarnation, but the one that either was such a far-out choice to be Musakified, or was Musakified to a degree that makes it worse than the average Musaked song?

For sheer bizarreness, my vote goes to The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” While belt-shopping with my brother. :eek:

My most bizzaro Muzak experience was hearing “Beat It” in the bank, all violinized.

I think the most common Muzak song has to be _Girl from Ipanema_. surprisingly, the Astrud Gilberto recording (not muzak)I have is really good.

Devo did a Muzak album of their music.

I knew a guy who swore he heard “Aqualung” played as muzak. If that doesn’t scare you nothing will.
