Rereading **ThelmaLou** ’s comment after it was linked again above, I find I’m actually even more sympathetic. I can’t really see how you can argue she’s wrong. She found the joke to be “flippant” and unfunny. That’s just a taste issue. She’s entitled to her own taste on whether she finds something funny. And of course a widow might find a joke on that topic unfunny. She also agrees with Lamoral who says that the OP probably wasn’t trying to come off as flippant. So she’s not even being accusatory. She just didn’t like the comment. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying she’s right. I’m saying I see it as just a taste issue, and thus there is no right or wrong. It seems no different to me than when someone makes an anti-rape joke and a rape victim finds it unfunny and flippant. I don’t think they are wrong, either. You can share your opinion. It’s only a problem if you demand they never do it again. ---

But I never wrote that I hated the show, Burns stuff is always interesting, but his Vietnam war doc had been hyped and hyped and hyped for more than two years as being the semi-be all and end all story of the war, with the promise of an avalanche of new facts and the reality was nothing like that. ---
