I think at this point, if they had any plans about doing a Black Widow movie, they’d have said something by now. They’d need to get started on pre-production pretty soon, too, if they want to get it out soon enough to replace Inhumans. And even if it did, I doubt it would cause the movie to be canceled, just delayed. So long as Marvel movies in general are making good money, they’re not going to flat-out cancel anything.
I love Whedon, but it was his idea to resurrect Coulson. Passing it off as a mistake “the TV people” made (who, for the record, are his brother and sister-in-law) is really petty.
Do we actually know that it was Joss’s idea? Films and TV are the result of thousands of compromises at almost every level of production. “Coulson comes back,” might have been imposed on the show by the executives as a condition of getting it made in the first place.
I dunno, obviously we’re only really hearing Whedon’s side of things, but everything I’ve heard him say make it sound like while he went along with it, it was the studios’ idea, not his. I’m not sure if he had final say-so on Agents of SHIELD but I get the impression that he wasn’t extremely hands-on with it. A lot of times a title like “executive producer” can run the gamut from “person in charge of every detail” to “put my name on it to attract viewers.”
Yes. He said so at the press conference announcing it:
If Joss doesn’t like Coulsen being brought back or whatever else about TV, maybe he shouldn’t have his name plastered onto the credits. He might not have had final call on the decision, but he certainly could have put his money where his mouth is and not participated. Otherwise he can shut the front door about it. This isn’t the Buffy movie days where he’s got no choice to go along with things because he’s a relative unknown.
I’m seeing a lot of “we” statements there, and not a lot of “I” statements. There’s nothing there that suggests bringing Coulson back was Whedon’s idea, and while he sounds positive about it, he’s doing a pre-taped bit for Comic Con. It’s pure advertising, and not even live. Of course he’s going to put a positive spin on his upcoming project. Marvel would never have allowed that clip to be aired if it were anything else.
Yep.
It seems like “We’re building the Shield show around Coulson whether you like it or not” and Whedon saying “I don’t like it, but let me make sure its done right.”
The problem is he got burnt out and now is all “I don’t like it. Ungh!” ::kicks rocks::
I have no problem with resurrecting Coulson because Coulson is awesome. Heck, they could kill off Nick Fury for realsies and I’d just shrug and ask for more Coulson.
I dislike the inhumans and the way they have been pushed by Marvel, so I’m not going to be complaining if their movie was cancelled. Any superhero can be mishandled but as far as I can see there is no golden age of the inhumans done right - they have merely been upgraded from slave-owning, eugenics-loving racists to unleashing a chemical weapon that killed all human-inhuman hybrids of insufficiently pure blood.
