What’s the mechanism for seasonal rhinitis? For lactose intolerance? I’m thinking about whether some people might get kicked into other allergies or sensitivities because they’re already activated by pollen. And my understanding is that rhinitis can get worse over time.
Lactose intolerance is completely different from allergies (though there is also such a thing as milk allergies). Special enzymes are required to digest lactose, and most adult humans (and adult mammals in general) don’t produce those enzymes. Something in our food being indigestible isn’t inherently a problem, except that many bacteria that live in our guts do digest lactose, and produce large quantities of odiferous gas in the process, so if we’re consuming lactose and not digesting it ourselves, those bacteria will.
Yes that is the pollen food allergy syndrome bit. Definitely more in adults.
And definitely there’s the bit with my wife being exasperated with me … normal people call lots of intolerances “allergy” …
Loved the Egg Ladder chart. I found it hilarious I can do 2/3 on step 3 and even some raw dough on step 4, but not every item on every step.
My cousin’s kid had anaphylactic reaction to eggs but they worked with a specialist, probably on this same ladder, and while I don’t think kid is having omlets, I think kid can eat the occasional piece of cake.
I once saw an “Egg Ladder” of sorts in a vintage medical book, that started with “Mix 1/4 teaspoonful of raw egg white in 1 gallon of water, and drink 1/4 teaspoonful of this” and gradually worked, over a period of months, up to an entire hard-boiled or fried egg.
