More precisely, five peacocks and a peahen.

I’d been told that someone in an adjacent neighborhood raised them. It appears they’ve broken out - perhaps frightened by the thunderboomers that came through the area earlier today? A couple of them flew up onto the neighbor’s roof, then flew down again. Unfortunately, none of them have the ornate tail feathers. But it was still an impressive sight!

Last seen walking up the road. No wait - I see them outside the window again! Snacking in my yard. Sure wish I had a camera. ☹

hmmm, perhaps a bit too exciting to be mundane?

My sister and BIL bought a big ol’ Victorian on eight acres – I’ve spent the last two years trying to talk them into getting some peacocks.

Now there’s one on my roof! It was walking down the driveway and the dog started going crazy, so he flew up on the roof!

I’ve now got the coolest house in the neighborhood! 😃

I was once running through an busy intersection chasing clowns.

Well I called them “clowns” but they were actually some pheasant-like birds with naked, white faces, blue cheeks and flaming red heads. There had been a thunder storm so they decided to congregate at some rural (but BUSY) crossroads.

On first pass I yeled “AAAH! Mini-clowns!” Then I honked to scare them out of the intersection. They ran to the ditch, but then ran back out onto the street. So I had to pull over and try to chase them off the road. Eventually, I left them hanging out on the shoulder of the road.

Uh-huh. Any second now it’s going to slide down the chimney and go all Hitchcock on you!

**There are peacocks in my cul de sac!**

As a matter of interest, are there eels in your hovercraft?

Lucky for me we don’t have a chimney, and I haven’t checked the hovercraft lately.

It’s getting dark - will they cry all night and keep me awake?

Aren’t they loud as hell? I think they sound like a large cat. It’s rather strange to hear them call out at night. Across the creak behind my property, there are a few in a pasture full of cows. They are nosey birds that will chase off hawks and anything else they do not like.
My kids love em though…

There used to be a farm in the middle of nowhere near where I live, that had peacocks as their main livestock. They used to get in the road all the time.

They sound kinda like this: “Kaay-YOW, kaay-YOW, kaay-YOW!”, except at about 120 decibels. After a couple of days of it, you start planning peacock menus.

Peacocks are evil. At our zoo, they wander around loose, and when I was little I got attacked by one because it wanted my french fries.

I’ve never liked them since.

Yup, peacocks are noisy, loud, stupid and kind of mean. We had one for a couple of years, just showed up one day, and our home was thirty miles from the nearest town, so I don’t get that at all. Anyway, I still have dreams where I hear that bird calling, like a lost child crying. Enjoy them while you gots 'em though, a touch of the exotic!

Those would be [Guineas](http://www.guineas.com/colors.html). I used to have a flock of them to control ticks in my yard when I lived in the country. Seventeen of them.

While I was looking for a good picture of a Guinea, I chanced upon the lovely [pea-guinea.](http://www.guineas.com/peaguinea.html) Just think-- the piercing scream of the peafowl combined with the grating _kikikikikikiki ker-KREET_ of the guinea.

> [@](#):

> A pea-guinea is the hybrid offspring of a peafowl and guineafowl mating. Usually the result of an overly agressive peacock and a willing guinea hen, but can result from a guinea cock and peahen mating. The offspring is nearly always sterile because of the mismatched chromosomes and no fertile pea-guineas have been reported to date.

**FairyChatMom** , I hope that your peafowl visitors aren’t too loud, so that you can continue to enjoy them. They’re pure class until they open their beaks. To me, they sound like a cross between a seriously distressed baby and a cat in heat, only much, much louder.

The noise isn’t the biggest problem. We have large porches and lots of windows. For about 3 years we had a peacock which liked to see himself reflected in the windows. He also did what most birds do only in the case of peacocks it is more like what cows do. When he died, I told my wife we would not be getting another peacock.

Young peacocks do not have tail feathers until about their third year. They also lose them, but this time of the year they should be grown back out.

A neighbor across the street from the house I lived in when I was in grade school had peacocks. And they hardly ever shut up. From my bedroom at the front of the house it sounded just like someone crying out “Help me, help me, help me”. Sort of unnerving to a kid.

Well, I didn’t hear them at all through the night, and I didn’t see them as I came into work this morning, although I did leave the house at 5:30 - do they do morinings??

I know my dog wanted a piece of them, but I wouldn’t let her out - when there’s something she wants, she manages to escape the yard too easily.

I’m still disappointed I didn’t have a camera. Reason #472 to get a digital cam.
