There May be rants (monthly mini-rants)

Here in Denmark, Ascension day is a bank holiday. Could the silence be because the broker and bank officer are having a day off?
No excuses for the carpet cleaners, though.

Just buy 6 bottles! Ba-da-bing!

I do, that’s what “subscribe and save” does. I get a double discount; buying in bulk is a discount, and getting them on a regular basis via subscription is a discount. So I have a bunch coming. The problem was that I had run out before my next scheduled delivery.

Buying the one bottle to tide me over until the next delivery works in the short term, and I shortened the time frame between deliveries so that I shouldn’t run out long term. I was just surprised that I ran out, since I buy in bulk through a subscription I thought I’d insured myself against such a thing. I guess I underestimated how much of that stuff I use.

Dear Trees,
Please stop having sex in the park, & my back yard, & everywhere else in public. Take it inside, will ya! I know it’s hard for you to move but if the trees in Oz can throw their own apples surely you can make it into a room. Ah-CHOO!!!

My cousin & her then-boyfriend went to the track on the day I was born. They didn’t yet know my name or other birth vitals but bet on any horse with ‘boy’ in the name…& won. He also proposed that day.
Sadly, sounds like they can’t be together much longer as he’s not in great shape.

I wanna buy a fast horse & name it Durante’s proboscis - “Here they come down the homestretch, neck in neck. It’s gonna be close! Might be a photo finish folks. Oh wait, looks like Durante’s proboscis wins by a nose!”
& my other horse, Maximus Derriere will be bringing up the rear.

Got hired tuesday. Came in today and his computer came up that I had been terminated from a differing mcdonalds in january. I’m sunk.

Does that mean you can never work in any Mac’s anywhere? And would that depend on why you’d been fired?

Could your manager hire you anyway, or have you on probation for a month or two? Talk to the new boss, explain that the trouble before was due to [insert temporary problem/illness/medication/family issue here], and that you’re back at 100% now.

When I worked at McD’s, they’d fire people one day and rehire them the next.

I had a no show at the other one. He says he cannot rehire me. Maybe he doesnt want to. I take buses, tried all the mcd’s, including the one I can walk to. Theres a black cloud following me.:anguished::cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

Someone tell me that the people that engineer things at Apple aren’t sitting around, twirling their mustaches, actively TRYING to piss us off.

I got a new (used) iPhone this week, replacing the one I’ve had for nearly five years. Naturally, it’s on the latest IOS. I go to play music l and I want to adjust the volume. The lock screen comes up as usual, but… there’s no volume slider anymore. I’ve always used the on-screen volume slider. It’s convenient, I don’t have to fully unlock the phone or use the physical buttons.

There has to be a sensible reason for this because otherwise, it means those fucking assholes at Apple just randomly remove functionality for no apparent reason. It’s not as if it’s become something to configure, it’s just gone. Why the fuck?!?!

Always. Fucking always. This is why I don’t allow my phone to auto-update, because these goat felching motherfuckers don’t understand the age old good advice to stop fucking fixing things that aren’t fucking broken.

And they’ve known people don’t like this for some time:
Article from a year or so ago

Goddam assholes. While they were at it, they moved the area of control to the bottom of the screen from the middle. Now it’s harder to hold it in one hand and advance or pause songs.

Motherfuckers. Glad at least I bought it used and not direct from Apple.

I would be royally peeved. And there is no way to watch it on demand. That’s why I didn’t fork over the fee this year. However, I already have my tickets to the 2024 Kentucky Three Day including preferred parking….

On my phone it’s there but I have to swipe down from the top right to get into the Control Center. Then the volume slider is there. No need to unlock.

They also added a bunch of ways to customize the Lock Screen itself. I added a bigger battery meter, a weather widget to tell me local conditions, and it tells me if I have an alarm set and the time it’s set for.

The volume used to be there with no need to swipe. And it can’t be customized onto the lock screen, so far as I can tell and from what I’ve read.

So again… motherfuckers.

Correct, but you said…

You still don’t have to do that.

I know it’s a mini rants thread, but it’s one swipe.

It requires an extra action versus what they had before the the IOS was changed - I won’t use the word “improved” because in this instance they made it worse. Wouldn’t be surprised if they fucked up other things because apparently, it’s what they do.

Mini rant, maxi rant… Why would anyone defend this? They took something that worked and made it objectively worse. I’m not the only one who thinks so based on that article and a number of other sites providing Apple with feedback.

I for one am glad to not adjust the volume by accident from the lock screen anymore.

I am generally in favor of giving people more control over their devices though, and I would be heavily in favor of including it among the lock screen customizations. As it is, the options are pretty limited. I wish there was more people could do with it.

… I love the way that iOS 13 works with iTunes on my MacOS 10 Macbook. So I haven’t updated either in way too long.

A while back, I had to get new phone and mac, and bought used ones (shoutout to gazelle.com) with the older operating systems.

Someday I’ll bite the bullet and jump to current OS’es on both. But for so long, I’ve had everything the way it JUST WORKS (Well, the way an olde farte™ likes it).

.

I would NOT want to miss a single moment of Mage and Angel of Empire facing off, the shuttlecocks blazing across the net, propelled by the racquets in the dexterous muzzles of these world-class equines.

.

what?

I… fucking hate… drivers who menace cyclists.

I’ve been having problems with anemia for a number of years. When it was first diagnosed I was in the hospital and they did a colonoscopy and endoscopy to determine if i had an internal bleeding. Fortunately my lower GI tract was fine but they did find some bleeders in my stomach, which they cauterized. They had me come in a few months later for a follow-up endoscopy, which revealed a few more bleeders which were also cauterized. After that, my blood iron levels seemed to be okay. I was tested periodically, and was going in once a year for an iron infusion.

Then last year I had to go in for a second iron infusion. Then in January I had a week where I didn’t have any energy, and went to the ER. They gave me iron and did an endoscopy, and then set me up for another series of iron infusions. This now involves going to the clinic once a week for four weeks, but each infusion only takes about an hour (as opposed to the all-day procedure I had had to go through when they first started.) Then they decided they needed to do another endoscopy, where of course they found more bleeders that needed treatment. Not only that, I needed to have follow-up endoscopies. In addition to the one I had in the hospital in January, I have now had one in March, April, and this past Thursday, and I have another one scheduled for the end of June.

Besides the prep (no food the day of the procedure and adjustments to my medications*) I also need to arrangements for transportation, since I can’t just take an Uber or other transport - I have to have a “responsible adult” who will stay with me after I get home in case I have a post-procedure reaction. I have a friend who can come over and help with this, but she has her own health issues and there’s always a chance that she may have to cancel at the last minute. Trying to arrange for someone else at the last minute would be almost impossible, or could cost a few hundred dollars, which may or may not be covered by my insurance.

*I suppose I should be grateful it’s not a colonoscopy prep.

Just highlighting this, as I thought it was worthy of its own mini-rant. This situation should be unpossible: knowing what is and isn’t covered should be clear.

I do plan on looking into this. I just need to figure out who I need to talk to. I don’t think Medicare covers transportation (except via ambulance) so it will probably be my secondary BCBS coverage.

It just amazes me that there isn’t some sort of support system for people who live alone and need this sort of service but don’t require a trained nurse, which is what I keep getting referred to when I search for “medical transportation”.
