My friend is interested in dating her Jewish neighbor and wants to educate her self on his customs without having to ask some rather personal questions. Actually just one comes to mind… Is it true that Jewish men will not/can not preform oral sex? thanks ---

My guess would be that if your friend was not Jewish then any Jewish man who would be willing to date her would not worry too much about any possible restrictions on sex. No sir, not Jewish herself. As with any religion he might follow some rules and not others. But I think that issue is clear for her now. When he comes over is there anything she should not offer him besides pork? Is any ol’ beer ok? ---

As in pretty much any religion, the answer to your questions depend on what denomination the fellow practices and how observant he is. Many US Jews do not keep Kosher or only keep Kosher at home. If he does keep Kosher, avoid pork and shellfish. Meat and milk products should not be mixed, e.g. cheeseburgers are right out. At least at the reform Judiasm level, I’m not aware of any prohibitions regarding sex – my impression is that Judiasm has less hangups regarding sex than most other religions. Frankly, I wouldn’t worry about the religious aspect right off. ---

Just not during Passover (one week, usually in April) or on Yom Kippur, the day of atonement where Jews fast. No. A Jewish man will do this, for the pleasure of his wife. Cite: _Code of Jewish Law_ Chp. CL para. 9. But it may be prohibited or maybe not, depending on the interpretation of Chp. CL para. 5. As in all things, “Two Jews, three opinions.” Even within the rules about sex & chastity. ---
