There's a hunk of metal in my mouth - on purpose!

You’ll be glad you did this…trust me.
BTW…‘Girl’ has some good advice for ya. Advil is the right stuff. Take one right after you get them tightened, and an hour before dinner for a few days after. It’ll make dinner much easier to eat.
Keep us posted with your progress!
Oh…the tooth extractions suck. Make sure the doc doesn’t skimp on the pain pills.

I liked the elastics–well, I did after I learned how to shoot them out of my mouth and across the room to hit that anoying jerk who sat on the other side of algebra class. Mmmm, good times

I didn’t learn this until after I had my braces taken out, but apparently Chloraseptic does wonders after you’ve had them tightened if you spray it on your gums.

I had a few dinners of nothing but mashed potatoes and Jello during those two years.

Welcome aboard(s), Girl!

Update: If my instincts are to be trusted, things went very, very well. Not only was I able to pronounce my own name (no small feat!) I was able to eat a small bit of food without incident, and impress the interviewers for a position that requires a bit of public speaking. Just don’t ask me to say the name of my town. I’m still a little squeaky on that one ::grin::

And thanks to everyone who has offered advice. It’s really been a great help!

So far I’m not in a great deal of pain, but I really don’t like it when my teeth touch anything else. It was only bad earlier this morning when my office was so cold my teeth started chattering – I had to keep my tongue stuck between my teeth!

You know, Jet, the more I see that picture of you with the snarly braces look going, the cuter it gets. Good luck on the whole braces thing; I have no clue what it’s like. Luckily I was born with some amazingly straight teeth… that are kinda scary sometimes.
