> He shouldn’t be tailgating no matter what he feels. If he really wanted to get past, all he had to do was to turn on the lights, and the OP would pull over and he’d go past. If he got an emergency call that’s what he’d do, right?

But I wasn’t saying it was an emergency call.

Also, I know some cops who _actually won’t flash their lights for no reason_ just to get by someone, run a red light in the midddle of the ight, etc. (…and I’ve known some who would have no trouble abusing their lights…)

All I was saying is that this cop might simply have wanted to drive faster. Some agressive drivers (read: people like me before I slowed it down) think tailgating will indimidate the driver ahead to pull over or speed up. True, he _shouldn’t_ be tailgating, but he shouldn’t be trying to entrap drivers, either. If he just wanted to pass, the OP letting the cop pass might have been the smart move. I’m saying the chance of the cop “mak[ing] an excuse by the time he got to [the] door” (at least from the cops I know) is less than the chance that the cop just wanted the OP to get out of his way.
