# There's Rioting in Our Streets

Back in town. Skillfully evaded any lurking tsunamis, although where we were was well protected by distant islands and towering limestone cliffs; we could see why that location was not affected by the Big One in 2004.

Didn’t pay much attention to what was happening in Bangkok whille poolside or floating in the sea, but there was some sort of riot among the pirated-goods vendors at Patpong when Commerce Ministry officials and police tried to raid them. Turned into a huge brawl, with 10 officials and 7 vendors seriously injured. See [here](http://www.nationmultimedia.com/search/read.php?newsid=30102232&keyword=patpong). There’s some sort of red-shirt rally today (Sunday) in northern Bangkok, with I believe 20,000 expected.

Sondhi left the hospital a couple of weeks ago. Odd, but the weekend before last, he was scheduled to hold a press conference in which he promised to name every name behind the assassination attempt against him. Suddenly, it was postponed, because he had a “slight fever.” When he did hold it a day or two later, he only said “old-guard politicians” were behind it. Hmmm. I wonder if someone got to him and persuaded him that naming names might not be a good idea.
