Maybe I missed where the OP indicated why it was not an option to BYOB…there was _nothing_, as I remember it, in the OP about there being, other than the bar being open for an hour, no option for alcohol. Pizzabrat, truly you are a fucking idiot if you think serving cocaine and serving alcohol at a party are comparable issues. I’d also like some description of how people drinking at the same venue as you are “cramming [a] lifestyle down people’s throat” unless they’re somehow forcing you to drink too. I’m starting to understand though just why people within earshot of you might need a stiff drink though. Oh, and as everyone seems to be ignoring **Steve** and **iampunha’s** byo suggestion - it wouldn’t really be the done thing, would it. Any employer who’s so keen on keeping his wife happy could take a real dim view of employees swigging out of a hip flask. ---

I’ve experienced what **pizzabrat** has, though I suspect he/she/it was employing some hyperbole. Something about a person drinking soft drinks when there’s alcohol avaiable makes _some_ drinkers crazy–see my previous post on the hubby’s company X-mas party. I supposed that they mean well, but, you know, that whole decreased inhibitions / diminished mental capacity thing . . . Of course it’s not _all_ drinkers, but it only takes one or two people who have decided that it is their personal mission in life to get you drunk to be _really freakin’ annoying._ I don’t agree that this means having to go with a party with alcohol is having that lifestyle shoved on you. While it sometimes seems that “there’s one in every crowd,” that’s why we had to sit through all those bad movies in health class in high school where you learn how to say no to drugs and alcohol. Of course, neither do I think that being forced to go to a party _without_ alcohol constitutes having _that_ lifestyle shoved on you . . . I think it’s either both or neither, right? Can’t say that being forced to go without drink for a few hours means you’re subjected to an unwanted intrusion of the teetotaler lifestyle while a non-drinker _isn’t_ being imposed upon by being forced to hang out with drunks for a few hours. In the end, _it’s a few hours._ I don’t particularly _like_ my husband’s co-workers. We have nothing in common and they actually don’t seem very _nice_, and I get the feeling that they find me to be a brainiac freak, so, happily it’s all mutual. So alcohol aside, I’d _prefer_ not to go the party. Does that mean that they’re _imposing_ their sports-watching, cosmetics - comparing, talking - about - the - last - time - they - got - so - drunk - they - puked lifestyle on me? ---
