> Christians have a downer on Jews because Jesus was killed by Jews, right?

When one starts with an invalid premise, one can’t expect a valid conclusion. The mainstream Christian deniminations that I am familar with all consider Jews to be the “chosen people”. How God will reconcile that with their lack of belief in Jesus as Messiah is up to Him.

Put more simply, Jesus did not have a “downer” on Jews even though He knew He would be rejected and killed, ergo Christians (defined as those who attempt to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ) do not have a “downer” on Jews. Anyone who does is simply not following the example set forth by the One whose name they claim to take.

But the story needs a villain, right? Even though if the hero didn’t get killed, it wouldn’t make a good story, so the villain is actually vital to the plot. If it was Jesus’s destiny to die on the cross, then shouldn’t the Jews be lauded for fulfilling it?

My favorite proselytizer was a very young cute energetic lass trying to get me to attend a prayer meeting. She was telling me how she used to be such a sinner until she found Jesus, such a sinner she was.

Me: So, could you describe this sinning in more detail? Do you have any pictures maybe, or a website? 😃

Jesus may not have, but John sure did, and Matthew didn’t help things. John constantly refers to Jesus’ enemies as just “the Jews,” not limiting the role to just the spiritual leaders as do the other gospels. And Matthew has the people present participate in Pilate’s ritual, claiming responsibility for themselves _ **and their heirs** _ for Jesus’ death. (Matthew 27:25: “And all the people answered and said to him, ‘His blood be upon us and on our children.’”) With the common Christian practice of combining Scriptures from multiple books, that quickly was interpreted as saying all Jews everywhere were responsible for Jesus’ death.

And between that and the Trader Joe’s thing… well those darn Jews sure got it coming!

> The goal of any Christian (or those who follow the teachings of Jesus but don’t identify as Christian) is to emulate Christ! To be Christ-like!

So, to be a genuine Christian, I should spend 40 days wandering in the desert, desecrate Jewish temples and place a curse on fig trees? Sounds like a plan!
