Well, no. Of course not, that’s one of the many different errors he made by playing it in that setting. Heck, if he had just had the sense to play it after 11PM on a Tuesday, he probably would have kept his job. I’d let the clerks put things like Alien in around that time on a slow night, and I never heard a peep.

But really, that’s kind of my point. Even some 20 years after its release, it was still unknown, shocking and quite offensive to quite a few of our black customers. I don’t know if their response would have been any better if they’d seen it from start to finish, but it doesn’t require one to be white to be offended by it.

That’s the problem with a work like that. Seen in its totality, it’s clearly mocking racists, and making them look like the common clay of the new west.

But in the few minutes you might see while looking for a video to rent? All you see is the “Up yours, N-word!”, and not the follow-through.

You can laugh at whatever you want. No one is going to arrest you.
