They're going to cut me.

This is it. I’m going to try to sleep. I have to go early in the morning.

I want to thank everyone for their stories, because they really helped a lot. I don’t feel very nervous. Yeah, I am a *little * bit, but nothing like I thought I would be. I’m actually looking forward to being knocked out, just to see if it really does feel like I was just dozing for a moment. If not, maybe I’ll have trippy dreams for **Amazon Floozy Goddess ** to doodle up for me when I get back.

I feel worse for my husband, who is actually going to be waiting around, worrying. He’s not showing it, but I sense it. I expect I’d be the same if the situation was reversed, except… okay, well, I’d be more vocal about it. But he’s got a good book, and I told him to bring my Nintendo DS. Poor guy. I’ll wake up and think it was all over in a heartbeat, and he’ll likely be sitting there looking wiped out.

Just finished going over Maastricht’s checklist: I’m all set! (Thanks, Maastricht!) It’s 11:30, and I have until midnight to get my last drink in. Well, my papers say I have until 5am, but a nurse from pre-surgery called me today and told me no food or drink after 12, so I’ll go by her instructions for caution’s sake.

deep breath Okay! Let’s yank this thing out!

Good luck Anastasaeon! You’ll feel much better soon!

Sending happy thoughts for no pain and fast healing your way, Anastasaeon!

I hope you’re doing well and enjoyed your 8 second buzz before you went under.

When you get around to peeking at where they cut you, don’t worry about the way your skin looks squiggly, it’ll heal flat.

And, if you feel pretty good, be sure to play the sick card a little bit and let hubby take care of you. Let us know you’re ok when you’re up to sitting at the computer.

Sending more supporting thoughts your way. Come back well.

Thought I’d just pop in here and share my gall bladder surgery experience. I had mine out on Jan 19th. I went into the hospital at 7:30 in the morn, and was on the way back home by 12:30 that afternoon.

The hospital I went to was totally concerned on minimizing patient pain, so much so that they gave me a numbing shot so that I wouldn’t feel the IV needle going in.

As others mentioned, I remember being wheeled into the OR, and the next thing I know, its over and I’m in recovery. When I came to, the recovery nurse informed me that I had been talking to her for the past 25 minutes… to this day I have no memory of our conversation.

Overall the surgery was way less painful than a single attack. I had put it off to my stupid fear of surgery, but if I had it to do over again, the damn thing would have come out of me much sooner.

So far, I’ve had no ill effects. In fact, I was having some digestion issues for a few years before the surgery, which have pretty much vanished.

Good luck with your surgery

I’m alive.

Thanks everyone. I’m tired and sore, but everything went as planned, and pretty much as everyone said it would. No nausea! Mostly I’m thirsty. I’m munching on saltines and drinking pear juice and popping pain pills until I drift off.

And, for your amusement, and much to the operating room’s joy, I asked as I felt myself going loopy: “Shall I countdown from ten? Or would you like me to sing ‘Mairzy Doats’?” They requested Mairzy Doats, and I sang like a bird, higher than a kite:

*Oh! Mairzy doats and dozy doats
And liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too… would… wouldn’t… y-yoooou? *

I did manage to get the whole chorus in… but nothing more.

The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery with pain no worse than a menstrual cramp. The nurses were very kind and friendly. They later told my bemused husband that I was a pretty good little singer.

Thanks for all your stories and good wishes - it worked! Now I’m in the “been there, done that, got the (soon to be hard to find) scars” crowd.

I’m going to hobble to bathroom and have a trickle and go sleep on my sofa.

My dear, only you
BTW, it’s “Mares eat oats and Does eat oats, and little lambs eat ivy… a kid’ll eat ivy too, wouldn’t you?”
But I like you’re better.
I’m so glad you’re doing well. You have my number, so, feel free to call if you need to sing some more.

Ha, congratulations! Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery. Did you get to see the gallbladder?

I’m glad. See? Nothing to it.

::Two big thumbs up to Anastaseon::

Hope you’ve laid in a few movies and/or books.

Well, sorta… Lyrics

Woot!

No, seriously, “woot,” because that’s the noise you’ll be making all of today while your abdomen depressurizes.

Nono. I believe it’s “poot!”

Glad to hear that things went well. Hope it continues to go well.

Great newsAnastasaeon, follow the food rules they give you, and don’t strain yourself doing things. You will feel capable of doing more things than it is sensible to be doing whilst you are recovering.
I will always associate Maizy Doats with your getting anesthatised from now on

Now, now. Let’s not be hasty.

I for one welcome our new Sexually Active Gall Bladder Overlords.

Different strokes…

Well, that’s a wild coincidence, because ALL FRIGGING DAY yesterday, I couldn’t get that song out of my head!

Glad all went well, and now take it easy and heal right.

If you get a squeaker, it’s “poutine.”

(1) Hernia repair (in 1957 when they still sprinkled talcum powder in there)
(1) Cyst removal
(1) Lumbar diskectomy
(6) Kidney stone surgeries - cystoscopies, lithotrypsies, and a lithotomy

I go again on April 12 for 2 more kidney stones.

Each time it has turned out fine.

You have my sympathy, but you also don’t really need to worry much.
