What difference does it make if they cast a girlish looking boy or a boyish looking girl?
As far as ruining the film,
The two main factors are going to be 1) Production - who is directing/writing, is this going to be an indy film or are they trying for mainstream, and how much interference is there from the studio… 2) American sensibilities - America tends to have no problem with violence in their films so I don’t see this aspect being watered down, it might even be more intensely violent and/or gory, but there are a lot of hang ups about sex, nudity, and non hetero relationships, especially with regards to children, so I’m not sure how that aspect will pan out…
I don’t see why. Everything she said could also be said for the original movie, unless I’m really weird for thinking it a sweet, coming-of-age love story too. Ok, maybe Eli isn’t a “sweet, loving person” but she’s sweet to and loves Oskar, so maybe that’s what Chloe is talking about, Abby being sweet to Owen. We’ll find out.
panamajack, THANK YOU for that link, that was fascinating. Yeah, a year later and I still haven’t read the book. Jeez, so much has changed, and so much taken out of the movie, I had no idea THAT much was. If this new one is based on the book, inspired by the book, wow, it’s gonna be really dark. I can’t see how it would be possible to get much closer to the book without having an R rating. They’re going to have to tone it down. The original movie certainly did.
I’ve come to like Chloe a lot, and that interview only makes me like her more. We’ll see how she does. My love for the original movie will never diminish, but I’m getting excited for Let Me In, to see how it is handled, to judge it on its own terms. There’s no doubt I’m going to be there opening day.
Well the setting for one thing. And I guess we don’t have to take this at face value since she might not want to spoil things, but the fact that she
describes herself as a girl, and she doesn’t look like she can pull off androgynous…
As an afterthought from writing so many spoiler tags, just curious - if you haven’t seen or read this work, what did you think would be in this thread of interest to you?
I’m probably in the minority, but I didn’t think the Swedish movie was really that excellent. It was good, but I think there were some missteps in the movie. Parts of it were quite well done, but they trimmed so much of the book that we didn’t have much sense of the minor characters (at least I didn’t) and didn’t feel much compassion for them.
Now, for doing a version of the movie that is really “true to the book,” that’s pretty much impossible, unless…
they use CGI to do a graphic depiction of a vampire/zombie trying to rape a little kid
…which I don’t think they’d do. I certainly hope not.
And of course they can do that without really doing it, but then it wouldn’t really be true to the book, which describes the whole thing in horrifying mind-wrecking detail.
