Meemaw is from the Cajun French memere, for grandmother, just like pawpaw is from pepere (Diacriticals omitted there )
Annie Potts is definitely still hot.
Annie Potts makes that show, I know all the characters are settling into the show, but it got really good when she joined the show.
I love Marisa as Aunt May, she is also still very hot.
I am 47, when I started watching ST-TNG 30 yrs ago, I thought Patrick Stewart was old and looked like my grandfather, now I realize he was the age I am now. Now I just feel worthless, I am no where near being the captain of my own star ship.
Psst, StrTrkr777, two words: Kobayashi Maru. ![]()
So far as teens having (biological) aunts and uncles in their 70s, I’d say it’s not that common, but I would have had a 70-year-old uncle when I was 18/19. I have a younger sister who had two aunts in their 70s while she was still a teen (and would have had the aforementioned uncle, had he still been living).
BTW, this is not the uncle I linked to earlier. I think he started looking to be in his 60s before he hit 40.
Of course it makes sense. Nobody called out Stan Lee and Steve Ditko when the comics were running in the 60s and 70s. And, yes, you can have older aunts if there’s a disparity I age between the parents’ generation and if there’s a big gap between when they got married and had kids. Or it can happen if the person is related by marriage (which is what happened in aunt May’s case, according to Marvel Canon – she’s a sister-in-law, not a sister.
Of course, things change. In the Ultimate Marvel universe, Aunt May is a lot younger, which the movie might be picking up on.
But it’s not as if these sort of age differences don’t still exist in the world at large. There’s no “new reality” here.
All of this is pretty irrelevant to my main point, which you’re not gonna explain away – Aunt May has, indeed, been getting younger and hotter (in that she’s been played by actresses that are progressively younger at the time they play her) with each new movie incarnation.
That was Kirk.
Piccard got where he was by fighting a Nausican and getting stabbed in the heart and that bravado caused him to quickly move up the ranks and make Captain.
Is that equivalent to Southern US? Because I hear Meemaw and Pawpaw up here a lot. Maybe it’s from French Canadian like the Cajun French mentioned above?
I live in the south. I am Grandma (first name) and my husband is Poppy. They called my Dad Pawpaw. I wanted them to call me Nana, but it didn’t stick.
I’m only in my early 30s, and I agree wholeheartedly. I looked at her pictures, and while they tried to age her up a bit with the grandma hair, she still looks quite young.
There once was at least one set of roles that even older women could play, without having to have had tried to keep themselves as young looking as possible with plastic surgery and stuff. But that seems to be gone. Potts looks like she’s in her 40s because that’s what older people have to look like in Hollywood.
I mean, I guess it’s nice that older actresses can keep on playing younger characters. But it sucks that now even the older actresses have to keep up with the young-equals-beautiful paradigm.
