# They've calculated our posting ratios!

Okay, so maybe I’m just a bit slow and others have already commented on this: but the profiles now have each person’s daily posting ratios!
Considering how certain, uhm, unothodox attempts by certain posters to calculate said ratios were frowned upon, and the occasional comments from the mods that people shouldn’t fixate so much on post counts and use up band-width talking about them, I’d just like to say that I like this new feature, and appreciate that the administration is catering to our collective geeky obsession with stats.
(Piper, whose posting ratio is 2.28 posts per day since June 16, 1999 - you knew I’d put it in :D)

That was a joke. kabbes, don’t kill me! It was not a conscious choice to have that feature, it just came with the upgrade.

kabbes is one of the Teeming Millions that loves statistics and has posted in several ATMB threads with numbers concerning post rates / user signup rates etc…

No, of course not, **aceospades**. These numbers are purely for amusement for the stats-geeks. It’s not frequency of posts, or number of posts - it’s quality - that’s all that’s important!

Mind you, still no way of _harvesting_ the data without using highly frowned-upon methods. Fortunately I still have records of the data that has been harvested by various posters pre- or in-spite-of-frown. Increasingly out of date, but still an insight.

On checking my profile, I note by virtue of diligent posting over the past few days, I have added 2/100ths to my post ratio: it’s now 2.30!!
Now there’s an accomplishment to be proud of!!

Of course, you do realise I hope that the posting ratio is crocked because we lost all posts between 7/12/01 and 11/3/02. Assuming you posted at the same rate between these dates, you could always scale your ratio up pro rata by the time you’ve been here compared to the time lost. But if you posted more or less than usual in this time, there’s not much you can do except stick a finger in the air.
Damn damn _damn_ those lost threads! All those numbers… lost… like tears in rain…

I was reading this thread last week, and wondered what all it was about. Then I started [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=105029) and then wondered how **Yo La Tengo** knew my posting ratio. I knew it had something to do with this thread, so I checked, and it did! Sorry if this is not making any sense… sometimes I don’t!
Anyhow, I think I’ll go check now… 13.86! Woo hoo! This faster computer helps! See you all later!
