There used to be a kind of mint that I absolutely can’t find anywhere. You’d usually find one or two, shaped like a wreath or a bell in a box of Christmas chocolates. They were exactly the consistency of maple sugar candy, but, well, …minty.

Used to be able to buy them by the pound, but they don’t seem to exist anymore. ☹

> Two years ago I left my favorite rainbow hat on a commuter train and I haven’t seen it since. I have scoured the internet multiple times, but I can’t find anything like it. I miss that hat, man.

I found a trick is to do a goggle image search until I hit what I want. For instance, here is “rainbow hat”:
[https://www.google.com/search?q=rainbow+hat&hl=en&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=\_s1HT\_fNFumMiALExoDbDQ&sa=X&oi=mode\_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CC8Q\_AUoAQ&biw=1208&bih=967](https://www.google.com/search?q=rainbow+hat&hl=en&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=_s1HT_fNFumMiALExoDbDQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CC8Q_AUoAQ&biw=1208&bih=967)

I used it just the other day when a friend called about a gold spiral thing she saw a woman wearing around her ponytail.

Another trick is keep rewording your query until you get some useful hits.

The trick here is to click on the wundermap and select the temperature station you want. There even have one from an off-shore buoy. I use it with my google weather to give me readings from a weather station about a quarter mile from my house.

So far, I’ve managed to find a site with various blueprints for building your own (blueprints which are routinely taken down by either the BBC or some British government organization who have a copyright on the shape of police boxes), but I lack the tools and the know how. If you’d asked me a year ago, I’d have assumed it easy finding someone willing to knock out a two foot high blue box for a few hundred dollars, but apparently not, because here I am, one year later, TARDISless, cursing societal gender constraints which guided high school me into a home ec classroom instead of the woodworking class I’d have preferred. Grr.

There’s actually an Airfix kit of the Tardis, with figs of the Doctor and Martha. The Tardis is about nine inches high. [I’ve got one, and it’s actually pretty nice, and doesn’t seem to be hard to assemble.](http://www.airfix.com/doctor-who) You might look into it.

About 18 years ago, in the nascent pre-Internet years, my flatmate was really into computers much more than me, and would find all sorts of interesting files on things like BBS’s and cover-discs on magazines. One of those things was a really impressive animation of a bee being chased by a wasp, photoreal CG animated insects on a live action background (Sort of like [Minuscule](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minuscule_%28TV_series%29), only better).

I cannot find any mention of that animation anywhere online, which surprises me greatly, because not only is it an early form of CG animation of significant quality, but it’s the kind of thing that would have done well on YouTube.

On a semi-related note, I once found a fun little maze game for the PC on a cover-disc in the mid 90s that I can’t find hide nor hair of either.

I saw an animated song called “I got a warm reception in LA” at an animation festival in 1990 or so. Catchy tune. Been trying to track it down for years - never could.

So just before posting here to complain about it’s absence, I thought I’d give it a last try. And I found it!

So I guess that means the Internet is now finally perfect.

However, I distinctly did NOT perform such a search before writing this post, in the hope that someone will come along and say, “you dope, I found it in four seconds with Google.” I’d gladly look like a dope here in order to finally capture this missing piece of my life, and I just know that if I went off looking for this great white whale myself, my own search would actually cause its removal – if it existed in the first place – from the Internet.

Try [wunderground.com](http://wunderground.com) They have individual sites throughout the Chicago area, not just the airports. Hope this helps you

Butter mints? Common at weddings and the like?

[http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/127297126936876707\_FVCsGwp8\_c.jpg](http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/127297126936876707_FVCsGwp8_c.jpg)

If so, you can definitely still buy them by the pound, if you are crazy enough to like mint.

I spent a long time one day trying to find out how long the escalator at the Rosslyn Metro station is. I found several suggestions that it’s one of the longest escalators in the western hemisphere, but no details on just how long it is. I would have thought lists of long escalators would be easy to find.

Maybe you could email them?

I have no idea if they could read an English email, or if they’d be willing to give out the recipe, or if they even have it in digital form, but it might be worth a try. Just rave about the soup and talk about how you’ll probably never get to Iceland again and ask if they could please send you the recipe.

[Easy peasy.](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g28970-c56842/Washington-Dc:District-Of-Columbia:Metrorail.Trivia.html) It’s not even the longest in DC, it’s the 5th longest.

It seemed like less of a political jab and more based on the guy’s username (so it’s _related_ to politics, but it’s not actually a jab towards either potential candidate). I thought it was pretty damn funny.

Maybe, …but I don’t think so. It really is hard to tell, but those appear to be more chocolate-like in consistency. Close, but the ones I’m [crazily] looking for aren’t buttery at all and look more like [this](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3563/3764211445_7ac35fed3c.jpg).

I can’t find a live stream of the Oscars. In the UK it’s only being shown on TV on SkyMovies, but they’re not streaming it on their on-demand service, and I am a subscriber to that channel. JustinTV was streaming it, but it got cut off by Sky a few minutes ago. That’d be fair enough, but even their own paying customers can’t access it! Bastards.
