When John Carpenter remade it in 1982 they reverted the title to simply “The Thing” (even though the title image on the screen was made to look exactly like the one from 1951 otherwise). ---

When I was a child, we called a penis a Thing, because the word “penis” was considered not nice. Image generations of women growing up believing penis was a dirty word. ---
