How about E.T. cereal? It tasted like Reeses Pieces, naturally. Or Graham Crackos. They were damn straight yummy!!
Yeah, Colorforms are still around. Princess has a Clifford set. As a kid, I had Sesame Street.
Super Jocks?
Electroman and Zogg?

E.T. cereal would’ve been an early 80s thing (it was released in '82) though if you were a hcild of the 70s you would’ve been eating it in junior high…
And my Baby Thataway post got cut off when I had to dash off. I meant to finish by saying the dolls got wrecked at my place because they were so neglected that the batteries would eventually leak acid and I’d have the most toxic “dirty diaper” imagineable.
OMG!
How about the records that came with those HUGE books that told the story of a movie! I had so many of them! I wore out at least two “Robin Hood” ones.
I also had one for Sesame Street the was played to death!
Funny, I don’t remember that scene, but I remember parts of the jingle:
“When the day’s got you down you need some Help!
When a smile turns to frown you need some Help!”
“Help! Help! The real fruit drink!
Red and purple and orange and pink!
Help! Help! The real fruit drink!
HELP!”
JohnBckWLD: When Pillsbury introduced Funny Face drink mix in 1964, such flavors as Chinese Cherry and Injun Orange were available. The term “politically incorrect” wasn’t yet in the lexicon, but it’s certainly applicable.
I had a Baby Alive! My mother hated it, but I remember the joy I felt when I opened that up on Christmas morning.
Other 70’s things:
My Friend Mandy and Friends
The little soft Fisher Price dolls-their names were Natalie, Baby Ann, Audrey, Mary, Elizabeth, Jenny…
Sea-Wees! Sandy, Coral, and Shelly on their floating sponge lily pads.
Dancerella- You held her by a plastic pink nob on the top of her crown, and she’s spin around and kick one leg!
Ahh…childhood. Sadly, the sick footnote to this is the fact that I have many of these things, ‘NRFB’ in my closet. I went on an e-bay expedition to reclaim my childhood in mint condition.
FaerieBeth
I’d forgotten all about Sea Wees! I only had one. My best friend had a ton and so she gave me one of my very own for my birthday one year.
I’ve never figured out why, but for some reason my mom had a knack for ignoring my pleas for the things I really did want or else getting me some cheaper imitation that just didn’t do it. Like when I wanted the Barbie mansion-thing that had the “real working elevator” and she gave me some fake house from the Sears catalog that DID NOT have the elevator. Although I do remember one time that her alternative wasn’t toooo bad… when I wanted the Barbie motor home and she gave me the Corvette instead. Although I just kept asking for the motor home anyway, lol.
I had the barbie motor home or country camper (used to take the guinea pig on pretend camping trips with it.)
I never had space food sticks but my girl scout troop took freeze dried ice cream on a camp-out once. It had the consistency and texture of styrofoam peanuts but it tasted sweet and would melt in your mouth. I haven’t seen it since 1977.
I think those sweet/sour suckers were called “lollies.” I used to love their flavor but they were sort of dry and powdery and gave me canker sores. Another popular candy I haven’t seen in a while was “Now and Laters.” Once my sister and brother asked my Dad to buy some for them and he thought they were asking for annihilators.
I agree! I’ve been missing those Marathon Bars, and was really excited when I found the Curly Wurlys in a gourmet food shop at the mall. They were just like the Marathons I remembered.
And Krisfer the Cat, I remember those books/records as well! The Robin Hood was my favorite, too. I had a huge set of them. I don’t remember if my mom got them all at once, or it was a subscriber thing, like those music and book clubs.
Stuff you can still get that people have listed:
Carebears: Every holiday season at Carlton Cards for sure and Hallmark I think…
Pepsi Twist: Is definately still for sale. It came back recently.
Game of Life, Chinese Checkers and Viewmaster: Toy section of Walmart or Toys R Us
Pixie stix: I’ve seen can’t think where but I have seen
Freeze dried ice cream: Try your local Space and Science Center… it would be in the gift shop!
Anybody else have a “Rock Computer”? It was a punch card dropping bastion of scientific experementation if ever there was one. Perform all of the scientific tests on the supplied rock/mineral samples, press the buttons on the front that corresponded to the test results, open the door at the botton and out fell a punch card with more information about a rock than any kid would ever care about. Tons of fun for the entire family. I wanted a BB gun.
Does anyone remember the Little Professor?
Oh how I loved that thing even though I sucked at math!
I LOVED that gum. My faves were the Spearmint and the Cinnamon flavors! Mmm. Sigh
I still have the plastic mugs for these three that came with “marked packages”
Do they still make METAL tonka toys? I loved those.
And it was pre-seventies, but does anyone remenber Odd Og?
I used to love Meccano… my big brother always made wonderful things with flashing lights and moving parts attached - whereas I always had trouble enough just getting the ‘bits’ to stay together.
BTW, is Meccano still around?
I happen to know that Weebles are still around, but, sadly, they are no longer quite so egg-shaped.
Candy cigarettes are still sold as candy cigarettes at Mardi Gras parades. (Along with fake plastic boobies in varying skin tones – this town is WEIRD.)
I not only ran across a form the other day that has to be typed on a typewriter, but that requires that you use carbon paper in the process. And they still MAKE carbon paper! Man, I thought that had gone the way of the dinosaur!
Vacuforms- you put an object on the mold, heat a sheet of plastic until soft, press it down, and pump out the air.
Thingmakers- you’d have these metal trays with shapes that you filled with liquid plastigoop, then heat it until the color changed, then put it in a tray of water and peeled it out when cool. You could make spiders and ants and roaches- pretty cool stuff. Of course, today’s kids aren’t as competent as we were and because they might get burned, they don’t get this toy.
Smackaroo
Slo-Poke and Black Cow suckers
Super Balls- the black ones about the size of a pingpong ball.
Pickup baseball games in the sandlot
Mimeographs- remember the purple ink and that smell?
Slide rules
Did anyone have a Crystal radio?
My dad tried to get me involved in science experiments when I was very young and thought this was something very fun for his little 6-year old girl. I remember us trying to put it together and you had to coil a wire around a spool, and the wire kept breaking so we scotch-taped it together. The thing never, ever worked.
What about film strips in school? If we were really lucky, we had the fancy one with associated audio that told what we were seeing and beeped to let the teacher know to advance to the next frame.
Holey MOLEY! Do I ever remmeber filmstrips! Best napping time I ever got in school.
When I was in my early teen so about 76 to78 ish there were stickers of cartoon kids you could buy. I don’t remember the names but they were GROSS! Really gross with things like dismembered children and garbage and I don’t know what…
Oddly enough I thought of them a few days ago and thought how totally UNPC they were and they’d never be for sale these days. Pity… I think children’s sense of humor is so much more flexible than adults.
