**Don’t care** : [ol] [li]Pro Haircuts. Cut it myself a couple times. Went fine. Kept going.[/li] [li]Cable news. Used to follow the latest outrage and was convinced that crap news was the cause of many problems. Stopped caring.[/li] [li]White teeth. Coffee \> pearly whites.[/li] [li]Fantasy sports. Generally the kind of thing I’d be into. But I enjoy watching elite athletes compete, and then not thinking much about sports the rest of my time.[/li] [li]Pets. I’ll be sad when my dog dies. But I probably won’t get a new dog.[/li] [li]Guns. I get it. I should care. And I do care about some of the related issues. I just…don’t care at all about the politics and policy of American gun control.[/li] [li]Getting a tan. I’m pasty. So be it. It’s probably healthier.[/li] [li]Pretty car. Twice now drunk drivers have run into my parked car. But it’s aesthetic damage. I’ll pocket the payout.[/li][/ol] **Do care** : [ol] [li]My son learning to think for himself.[/li] [li]Hot water. As much as I want.[/li] [li]People doing their jobs well. _Jiro Dreams of Sushi_ makes me happy. Not nearly enough of that in the world, it seems to me.[/li] [li]Breaking 1000 lbs. total on the Big 3 lifts.[/li] [li]Quality clothes. Ones that fit properly and are made to last.[/li] [li]Beef jerky. It should be spicy. It should have four or fewer ingredients. It should not have significant carbs.[/li] [li]The number of people who are locked in cages in America in my name.[/li] [li]Getting enough sleep.[/li][/ol] ---

This is a breath of fresh air. I think I was wondering if there was something lacking in my mojo, that I don’t care about so many things. For instance, right now I’m surfing The Dope while my wife thinks I’m watching a reality TV show with her. But I don’t know who any of these celebrities are, and don’t give even half a rat’s ass. Oh, now there’s a hair care ad (don’t own a comb, use whatever shampoo’s in the shower), and… one for a generic mid-size car (didn’t notice which one, but it was silver and if you buy one you’ll now have the ability to drive on a mountain road _and_ on a city street at night. Big whoop). So thanks, Scylla – from now on, I’ll just say **"_Things i don’t care anout_?** Well, there’s another one!" ---

You just have to love the Dope… you can always count on: I don’t care about… TV… especially highly rated popular shows Popular but common restaurants (especially fast food) Popular Music Any movie that doesn’t stick exactly to the book Food or drinks that other people tend to like Other things that normal people like Sports Technology And of course they are very willing to post to let everyone know just how much they don’t care about these things. I was going to include beans in Chili and Ketchup on a Hot Dog, but Dopers clearly DO care about these. ---

A less pretentious list, my old age has made me less cynical, I guess: Do Care: [ul] [li] **Facebook** : I enjoy seeing what my friends are up to, especially long-lost pals from school days. [/li] [li] **Name-brand products** : If it’s a small difference, I’ll pick the Del Monte fruit cocktail over the Safeway brand, even though I know it’s probably the same.[/li] [li] **College football** : I love watching the games, especially when there’s an upset brewing. I do have trouble wrapping my head around Northwestern beating Nebraska regularly, Texas Christian beating Texas 50-7, and USC _upsetting_ Utah. [/li] [li] **Playing with my iPhone** : How did I survive long lines without it? How far can I get at Crossy Road before the wife finishes trying on clothes at the mall?[/li][/ul] Don’t care: [ul] [li] **Being a tourist on vacation** : I don’t need to blend in with the locals or go off the beaten path. I prefer Carnegie Deli over a kosher LES deli with no cheese, mayo, or cheesecakes. Tex-Mex on San Antonio’s Riverwalk than in genuine Hispanic neighborhoods. I’ll join the crowds at Old Faithful and Yosemite Valley, than go out of my way to see something obscure.[/li] [li] **Chains vs Mom & Pops** : Living in Hawaii, I will ALWAYS eat at Cracker Barrel and Panera Bread and (yes) Olive Garden on my mainland trips. Do care: Nurturing the fragile relationship I have with my sibs. Making sure my dog is well cared for a/k/a spoiled rotten. Having a health care directive on file at local hospital. Never running out of medication. Don’t care: Most everything else. ---

Care: -House. I focused on owning a nice home to the exclusion of many other things. Now that I’m here, it’s a big deal, I like it even more than I thought. -Money. Screw up the money and I could lose the house. -Girlfriend. Not necessarily in this order, ok? I am not sure why I dated all those other people- I should have skipped straight to this one! -Exercise. I don’t know if it will work for you, but running elevates my mood. -Booze. People say they don’t care about this and that liquor. Me, I am drifting away from craft beer to light beer. I just like lighter beer, even 3.2 beer or diet beer. Ok, fine. But I like some decent liquor. Bombay gin. Chopin vodka. Boulleit bourbon. It should be good! Single malt scotch, yah sure it is tasty but c’mon, it’s not like I have no budget at all. Don’t care: -Aging. Seems to be working out pretty well actually. So far. -ha ha, it is hard to think of them off the top of my head. I think I was so focused on goals that I forgot what I don’t care about. ---
