Hasn’t happened to me either, but it could, and I don’t appreciate having to worry about it because someone can’t wait to not be squashed in with a bunch of strangers to eat.

Yes. And in fact, it seems that, according to this thread, we should all stop doing everything and anything immediately because someone is going to get offended.

A lot of things _could_ happen. Someone could projectile vomit on you. A bird could poop on you when you leave the station. Or, actually, _in_ the station, as happened to me once.

How much time you spend getting worked up about these things is up to you.

Well, I’d probably say it’s rude to go on public transport when you’re feeling ill too. I mean, if it’s some spontaneous thing you had no way of predicting, fine, but knowingly cramming yourself in a tin tube with a bunch of other people when you’re sick is incredibly selfish. Stay home. As for a bird, well, I live in terror of that, but I can’t expect birds to practice common courtesy.

A lot of people don’t get sick days or they have to use them to take care of their families. A lot of what people do—like eating at odd times or in odd places—are because that’s the best they can manage.

When some asks me to remove my shoes, I ask them for slippers.

No slippers, no removal.

When people ask me if they should remove their shoes in my house, I say “No need, but please remove your trousers.”

Ha! When I get asked that question I say “Well I can’t take my wheels off so don’t worry about your shoes”.

For some things there just isn’t an acceptable excuse. No paid sick days? Nor might the guy on the bus who catches what you’ve got have any. And your colleagues probably don’t get any more paid sick days than you do, so why take it there?

As for eating on the bus, it really isn’t the best anyone can manage. If someone’s finding themselves with no time to eat except while jammed in between some total strangers, they could get up earlier.

Makes me wonder - you mentioned wheeling through some nasty stuff in an earlier post, do you have any way to get rid of that before you go rolling around your floor?

No, two people can straddle one bag. It’s when it’s on your back that it takes up the most space.

This would be relevant if people were shaped more like cylinders than "V"s. When I get on the subway I take my bag off and put it between my feet, which are then approximately shoulder width apart. Though it takes up more floor space, it’s floor space that would have gone unused.

I keep wet wipes with me (wet wipes are _so_ useful) for such situations as well as a hose in my garage for particularly nasty instances.

What a ridiculous thing to say, you’re not at all a freakishly big person (unless you are made of baloons). Maybe if you were 6 foot 8 rather than 6 foot you would have something to wine about, simmilarly if you were 350lbs rather than 215.

Also, your “suffering” from being constrained in a thing where this is loads of space for someone like me who is by the way morbidly obese and 6 foot is nothing like someone handicapped who **might have to shit themselves or even die if they are diabetic.**

You are silly.

I’m not putting my bag on the floor of the bus, no way. I don’t wear a back pack but I do carry a bag every day and I don’t want all that bus floor goop all over it. When I’m wearing the bag I take up about as much space as someone who weighs maybe 20 lbs more than I do (which is true of about half the people on the bus) and so that’s how much space I take up on the bus - as much as me and my bag take up.

I can get behind a lot of these suggestions for a modern life of good manners, but I’m drawing the line here. My bag stays with me.

Sure, but I think here we’re talking about if you don’t have a seat so you’re standing. In that case the bag stays with the girl.

And so? They should just lose their jobs when they get sick? Fail to pay the bills? Not be able to feed their families? Get evicted? Before you start making decisions for other people, perhaps you should try to ensure that there are government-mandated labor protections, like mandatory paid sick leave, and other things.

You have no idea what other people can or cannot manage. People who ride the bus around here are generally doing shit work for little pay. They have to make long commutes between housing they can afford and jobs they can get. Life is more expensive and time-consuming for them than they are for affluent people. What do you know about how much sleep they can manage? Do you know that insufficient sleep is a leading cause of cognitive failures, weight gain, heart ailments, mood problems, etc.?

Ew. There was this guy in my neighborhood who used to hock up lung butter all over the street – and he was really loud about it too. You could practically hear him even if the window as closed. It was absolutely disgusting.

I couldn’t agree more. Even if I don’t have wheels I might step on them, which means tracking disgusting horks wherever I go.

And what about people who spit in grassy areas or sports fields? People sit, lie down, roll around there. Fucking disgusting. That’s one reason I do my best to avoid all grass and never eat outdoors.

Once I was leaving a pharmacy and some disgusting moron hocked a loogie _across the fucking entryway_ nearly hitting me. What the fucking hell? Fucking moron!
