This is exactly why I only watch the Olympics.

Do you mean Olympics baseball versus MLB baseball or Olympics hockey versus NHL hockey? The Olympics is only every four years though.

I’ll watch any Olympic sport, including things I would never otherwise watch, just because I think it’s cool that I get to watch the people who are (ostensibly) the best in the world at that thing, doing their thing.

> Fighting. When I was in the SCA, I spent seven or eight years in armor, learning how to fight, going to wars & tournaments, and although I enjoyed having the armor, and making it and weapons, and I enjoyed learning about fighting, when the rubber meets the road, I just never really understood the appeal of walking out onto the field and letting somebody beat me with a chair leg.

Another SCAdian here agreeing with this. I acknowledge that the armor-making is an art (and an amazing one), and that the strategy of large-scale battles is interesting, but suiting up to get whaled on by (predominantly) macho guys with something to prove is not my thing, at all. I live in Atlantia, FYI. And the cult of the fighter and the romanticized notion of “chivalry”, at the expense of historical accuracy or genuine respect, just rubs me the wrong way (although there are plenty of fighters and others who choose not to drink that particular Kool-Aid).

Rapier and archery are cool, though, in that they involve more skill/finesse…and getting to explore various arts and sciences is fantastic.

Reality TV - stuff like Kardashians, that TMZ show UGH!

Jimmy Buffet - I can name two of his songs…just admit that it is just an excuse to tailgate and get obscenely drunk.

Fireworks - Sitting in an hour of traffic to get in…getting there an hour early and still struggling to find a spot to sit and relax while everyone steps over you or in front of you…watching 15 - 20 minutes of somewhat decent fireworks…sitting in traffic for 2 hours to get out of the parking lot. No fuckin thanks

WWE Wrestling - I knew when I was a kid it was scripted. Years ago they admitted it. What is the excitement of watching scripted matches?

Starbucks - You overpay for coffee. Good for you.

Youtube/Facebook/Twitter - I know you are proud of yourself, and think you and your kids are smarter/better than everyone else. That’s great. More power to you. I don’t need to be reminded with constant updates/posts/videos about how funny they are. Also, I don’t need to be reminded of how much you love your spouse and how happy they make you. Especially when you say the exact opposite when I talk to you in person.

People that spend too much time on their hair - I lost mine. I don’t like it. Fuck you

Ugg Boots - Ugh!

> Skald said it first, but professional sports leave me puzzled. Why on earth would you want to watch a group of men in matching outfits play with a ball? Why? You’re not getting to play… You don’t know them… No matter what the team’s name is, they’re probably not from your town, or even your country. And in our case here (Cowboys) their owner isn’t even from our _state_.
>
> I can understand getting interested in a neighborhood, or even a school team. But what on earth motivates people to watch professional sports?

For people who are in to sports, if you have a sport or a team that you follow, or even if you read sports news, it’s very much like a serial television program. It’s more than just the game - there are people playing the game and people making decisions about what goes on in the game and people making decisions about what goes on off the field (I’m not talking girlfriends I’m talking contracts). There’s no way to know the outcome of any sporting event until it’s over. Will it meet, exceed or fail expectations? Will something new happen? Something exciting? Will nothing happen at all?

Aside from the lack of script and the display of athleticism, I don’t see how it’s different than appreciating a good sit-com or drama.

There’s other facets to it - for example I can appreciate sitting down and watching a game where I don’t know any of the players or the teams, because I just like sport competition - but for people who are “in to” or “follow” sports, it’s the same as being “in to” any other form of entertainment.

I think that’s a good reason to watch…once in a while. Superbowl, World Series, etc. 20 Sundays in a row parked in front of the TV for 6 hours? No thanks.

Sports of any kind. Funny thing is, I grew up in NASCAR country (southern Rowan county, NC) and I know NASCAR through osmosis. My driver knowledge is a few years out of date, but I can still keep up. Why I keep this useless knowledge I do not know, but it makes me approachable to guys.

Shopping, especially shoe shopping. I’ve had people look at me like I have three heads because I’m a female who hates shoe shopping. Heck, if I could get away with it I’d only have one pair of shoes because I don’t even like wearing them. (Except my New Balance. Those are the ones I keep. Love those.)

I used to like driving a lot more before my lower back developed a hard knot that won’t unknot. Stupid bad back genes, why did you smite me?

Swimming because I wear glasses. I do not enjoy any activities that don’t allow me to see clearly. Makes me nervous.

- _Sports._ It’s stupid. You want the ball in the net? So put it there. Idontgettit!

- _Shopping._ Hate it. Shops, stuff, people, music. Even online I hate it, it’s too hard. That’s why I only buy from charity shops: they’re the only kind of shop I can stand. They’re quiet, and the people are nice, and they’re not so confusing with all the stuff.

- _Driving._ We’re just discussing going down to France, which would be a 9-hour drive. Even spread over two days I don’t want to do it. And trust me, the car is fine. It’s the driving that’s the problem. It’s sooo boooring! And when you’re driving, you have to do that all the time. You can’t just do something else for a minute.

-\* Make-up, clothes, hair, girly stuff.\* I’m bad at it, it’s boring, it takes ages. I do wear make-up, I feel enough pressure that I have to. But I can do about 2 different things: day and night. That’s it. I know many women enjoy this and it baffles me. And people always just assume that I will like it too.

- \*Trousers. \*Why wear trousers if you can wear a dress? It’s so much easier: you never, ever have to match anything. And you can move in a dress. The only excuse for trousers is horse riding.

- _Television._ There is some stuff that isn’t bad. But sometimes I suddenly see a little bit of generic tv: eek! At my in-laws recently, some horrendous show about people losing weight. And then loud screamy adverts. And the tv set is so ugly. Why do people put such an ugly thing on their wall?

This is a good explanation. I still don’t “get it”, but I get it. I used to watch American Idol, and even when I didn’t like the singers or performances, it had a sort of narrative thread that kept you hooked. Then of course, there was analysis and trash-talking. 😃
On the other hand, as **SmellMyWort** mentioned, both are so time-consuming! I can’t promise 97 hours of my future to the freakin’ TV set!

Civil War re-enactors. They enjoy playing _war_, which most people would avoid in real life. Not sure I understand the interest, but OK.

Agree on collecting. Hoarding is collecting’s ugly cousin. Even if you think your collection of cool stuff (to you) is well maintained and of value, someone else is going to have to deal with it once you are gone, and it will likely end up in the dump or given away to other collectors (essentially worthless). Same thing for antique-ing. I suppose if you get some pleasure from owning the stuff it is worth it, to you.

Parties: They are noisy, crowded, and too many people. Especially when you have to yell to make yourself heard.

OK, I was rolling my eyes at the “but you must never have had GOOD xxx” comments, but this must not pass.

Nearly all tiramisu is meh to crap, I will grant you. HOWEVER: If you ever find yourself in Vienna, at the Sieben Stern Braueri (Seven Stars Brewery) the tiramisu there puts all others to shame. If you don’t like that, then you can truly say that you are unimpressed by all tiramisu in the entire world.

Unfortunately this was the first tiramisu Kevbabe ever tasted, and the world has been disappointing us since. I had some fairly decent stuff in France recently, but not Sieben Stern class. Just as well, Kevbabe was not there, and I would have faced scorn if I had reported it nice.

I’m not the OP, but I also dislike driving. I don’t think the choice of car matters. It’s simply uncomfortable for me to sit in the same position for a long time, especially if I have to keep pressure on my right foot all the time. It gives me aches all over my body.

Have you ever enjoyed, say, a book or film in which anything bad happened?
