Gott im himmel! Ich bin Ihnen sehr dankbar, Herr **Bloom**. A bit too rich for my blood too, though, reminds me of when I was looking up [WWII/Nazi](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Nazi_Germany) terms for a poll, obviously language and terminology is where the moustached one casts a long shadow.

> The term _führer_ becomes a problem when used in a political context.

the term “Führer” on its own: yes.
For most other political uses it is also taboo - with the exception of some compound words, most commonly is probably "Oppositionsführer " (leader of the opposition). Rebellenführer (rebel leader) is another example.

That book is also [on Google Books](http://books.google.de/books?id=3j1oAAAAMAAJ) - not available online as full text, but you can search the full text.

> It has also put extreme nationalism and territorial expansion or land grabs in the same bad light - notice the numerous comparisons to Hitler when Russia took Crimea from the Ukraine.

But not the same degree of comparison, at least in the USA, when Israel grabs territory in the Golan Heights, and supports illegal settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

I don’t want to derail this thread, but Nazi Germany also ruined the dream that Jews, Christians and Muslims could largely all get along and live together in the Holy Lands. Radicalization of everyone including the Zionists who were, understandably perhaps, determined to carve out a Jewish State as opposed to just a homeland. Maybe things would have gone this way anyway, but the Nazis seemed to give some Zionist the moral justification to behave just as badly as everyone else to those who are different.

> Look at selections from [this book](http://imgur.com/a/8t6Kl) I found. Amazing. Not just the individual items you can read there even in these photos, but the very book itself. I found it at a used book store before it was even looked at by staff. All set to buy it, they took it away, back it comes: $100.

Seems fishy to me, to say the least.

Expressions like “verschollen” definitely weren’t coined by the Nazis. That’s just bogus. Other words are merely bureaucrat-speak, legalese or technical terms.

> Hell, I’m not even German and I’m the same on that one. Guys with 88, 18 or 14 ([not directly Nazi related](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteen_Words)) in their usernames always make me very suspicious.

88 could be a birth year, though.
