Some people still think it’s perfectly fine to spank, slap, or otherwise hit their children. In some countries it’s already illegal.
Right now, what you are talking about has 2 nasty little holes :
a. We’ve now got this idle rich class who’s parents or grandparents or other distant relatives were big winners. Maybe they worked hard, maybe they just found a way to cheat, but they are obscenely rich now. They are enjoying more fruits than all the rest of us, and doing no labor to get them.
b. We’re getting closer, to the point that we think it’s plausible, to inventing forms of machine intelligence that would be able to produce most or all the essentials for human life without any labor at all.
I don’t know what to do about this problem if (b) comes to pass. It’s a terrible paradox. Robotic systems would be able to farm, produce housing, produce food and medicine and energy, and the only things they would need in order to do this is
- Land
- Intellectual property
So it’s not a case where all the essentials of life are “free”. What would actually happens is that since most people *can’t *work…nothing they do is more valuable than what robots can do…the idle rich would get even richer. They’d now literally own everything, and have no reason to pay anyone else while they get even richer.
Physical paper Books become a curiosity that few bother with.
