Up until last year, I could have answered “bestiality”, as Ohio banned it only in 2017. It still is legal in a few places in the U.S. (including D.C., Hawaii, Kentucky and West Virginia (stop smirking)).

Thankfully there is low tolerance for zoophilia on the Dope.\*

> Recreational marijuana use has been legal in some areas for quite some time. Nothing is changing with respect to the SDMB and its rules, and nothing is changing in how we are enforcing those rules.

Regardless of its legal status at the state level, marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, and so is “illegal in the US.”

Even that’s becoming diluted. Rohrabacher-Farr Amendment. 9th Cir. has upheld it on appeal, ruling against the DOJ. We’re pretty safe here from sanctions.
That said, the dope is understandably worried about such discussions.

The problem with this is that it’s not criminal to buy liquor then; it’s [criminal to sell liquor then](http://library.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll/Illinois/chicago_il/municipalcodeofchicago?f=templates$fn=default.htm$3.0$vid=amlegal:chicago_il).

A question of “where can I get Everclear at 7 AM Sunday” would be accurately answered “you can’t, because nothing legal is open, and we won’t discuss illegal sellers.” The question “How can I set up to sell booze during blue hours” should be properly shut down.

I’m no lawyer, and the Illinois code is hard to read, but I can’t find a law specifically criminalizing underage purchasing. There is one that makes using a fake ID a Class A Misdemeanor, and there are lots of laws making it illegal to sell to a minor or allow a minor to work with liquor or wine, but purchaser behavior seems to be not in scope. (Maybe someone knowledgeable can correct me.)

I’m pretty sure I’ve discussed awesome backyard fireworks displays here, which are legal in Missouri but most definitely not in Chicago. I wonder if a “Help Me Design A Magnificent Backyard Fireworks Display” thread would take?

According to one of those “weird laws” websites of dubious veracity, it is prohibited in the city of Chicago to fish while riding a giraffe.

AFAIK, no such statute exists here in Olympia, so would I thereby be running afoul of the rules if I wanted to discuss the Junior Giraffe-Mounted Salmon Fishing League I’ve been sponsoring for local teens?

It’s also not criminal to _drink_ liquor then, so long as it was pre-purchased. So feel free to get wasted at 7am on a Sunday if you really want to, just do so at home.\* 😃

I’ve never really understood why people get so uptight at restrictive liquor laws. There are no liquor laws in a private home. Just buy your own liquor during the legally designated hours and drink it at home whenever you want. Nobody ever said you _have_ to go to a bar in order to drink.

\*[SIZE=“1”]The fine print: Please be advised there are likely health repercussions if you do this habitually, however it’s a more or less free country so I ain’t gonna tell you what to do.

So before November, 2013 we weren’t allowed to discuss same sex marriage because it wasn’t legal in Illinois?

We weren’t allowed to tell people how to subvert same sex marriage laws. Or something.

a) Gives a whole new meaning to “Mary _had_ a little lamb”.

b) Those case orders of Woolite are for my winter wardrobe. Yeah ---- that’s it ---- winter wardrobe. Honest. I don’t even own a pair of hip-boots.

Well, actually I own several. But for a different recreational purpose. Now the peanut butter on the other hand -------- 😉

Illinois does not have a specific law because it is enforced federally. see [National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Minimum_Drinking_Age_Act)

> Illinois law prohibits persons under 21 years of age from purchasing, possessing, consuming and/or accepting a gift of alcoholic beverages, except under the direct supervision and approval of the parent(s) in the privacy of a home or during a religious ceremony. Violation of this provision is a Class A Misdemeanor. Penalty: The person under 21 years of age is subject to a minimum $500.00 fine and 25 hours of community service, preferably as part of an alcohol abuse prevention program.

Anway, I’m in Canada, where the legal drinking age is 18 or 19 depending on the province which makes it legal here but not in Chicago until you’re 21.

Question: is it legal to go around without pants in Chicago because doing something without pants on is called _Chicago-style_.
