My brother saw the Who in concert and swore when they sang Eminence Front, they were actually yelling “living is fucked”. So yeah, that what I’ve heard every time since. ---

I used to schedule commercials for a living, and there were certain rules we had to follow: don’t run a McDonald’s commercial and a Burger King commercial in the same break, don’t put 2 different car dealerships back to back, etc. Now if I see or hear a rookie continuity mistake, it drives me nuts. I can’t watch commercials anymore. ---

You could see the movie studio lights reflected in his eyeglasses really noticeably. Now whenever a character is wearing eyeglasses, I look for the camera lights. ---

I used to have to walk a really long distance to get to class. One of my friends taught me that you can recite Poe’s “The Raven” in time with your footsteps. I used to like that poem, but now I associate it with having to walk a long way. Really pisses me off when I’m doing peaceful, enjoyable walking, like hiking, and it comes in my mind. ---

Once, when I was 18 or 19, I was trading stories with the guys at work about getting caught doin’ the nasty with our girlfriends. The guy who won was walked in on by his mother, while he was goin’ at it doggy-style. For months afterward, every time my girlfriend and I would start to get frisky I would think of that, then have to try my damnedest not to start giggling. ---

When I was a mere stripling and first started paying attention to the lyrics of our National Anthem I was very perplexed about the evident concern over this guy, Jose’, and what he could see. I envisioned him as terribly short and having to be hoisted atop some nearby viewer’s shoulders in order to watch what was going on with the rocket’s red glare and all that. ---

The album cover for the Grateful Dead’s “Wake of the Flood”. Look at the cloud, then turn it sideways, you’ll never see the cloud again. I don’t know if this counts but I can’t watch the movie “Lord of the Rings” without thinking of the Harvard Lampoon’s “Bored of the Rings”. First time I saw the movie I laughed all the way through. Just couldn’t stop thinking of Hobbits arm-wrestling chipmunks for dinner … ---

I am once again shaking my head at the number of over-the-top shuddery fears of GERMS… Yeesh. A good immune system is kept on its toes by an occasional inhalation of fecal effluvia. Unless you’re severely immunocompromised, being isolated and insulated from such exposure is probably just going to make your immune system turn on itself. ---

Each station or set of sister-stations (we call it a cluster) can have different time lengths that they sell to advertisers - and they might have run a commercial twice to fit the time slot. I don’t find it to be as professional, and there are other ways to handle it. But it’s not necessarily a “mistake.” It’s up to the programming director to decide what things they will and will not allow to run on their station - including a doubled-commercial. The biggest rookie mistakes are time-stamped commercials that run past their time (It’s Sunday and the event happened on Saturday) or a clipped commercial (the ones where they start and then get cut off.) It’s a disservice to the client and means that they are owed a refund. And refunds get rookies fired. ---
