> Times Beach is a ghost town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States, 17 miles (27 km) southwest of St. Louis and 2 miles (3 km) east of Eureka. Once home to more than two thousand people, the town was completely evacuated early in 1983 due to TCDD (a type of dioxin) contamination, formerly the largest civilian exposure to the compound in the history of the United States.
> In 1985, the State of Missouri officially disincorporated the city of Times Beach. The site of Times Beach now houses a 4...

Opryland.

> **[Opryland USA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opryland_USA)**
>
> Opryland USA (later called Opryland Themepark and colloquially "Opryland") was a theme park in suburban Nashville, Tennessee. It operated seasonally (generally March to October) from 1972 to 1997, and for a special Christmas-themed engagement every December from 1993 to 1997. During the late 1980s, nearly 2.5 million people visited the park annually. Billed as the "Home of American Music," Opryland USA featured a large number of musical shows along with typical amusement park rides, such as rolle...

I remember coming to Nashville as a kid and going there. I remember taking my niece and nephew there after I moved here. Now, there’s a shopping mall there. ☹

> Marineland of the Pacific was a public oceanarium and tourist attraction located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula coast in Los Angeles County, California. Architect William Pereira designed the main structure. It was also known as Hanna-Barbera's Marineland during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Marineland operated from 1954 until 1987, when it was purchased by the owners of SeaWorld San Diego. The new owners moved the popular killer whales and other animals to their San Diego facility and abruptly ...

When I was a kid we used to go at least annually. The Wiki doesn’t say so but apparently the redevelopment of the site is complete and it’s now a swanky resort /condo complex.

There are lots of similar 2nd- & 3rd-rank amusement park and theme attractions that were built in SoCal in the 50s thru 70s which died in the 90s and 2000s. Some are still visible; most are obliterated.

Four hours and eleven minutes give or take 10 minutes for a piss stop. Three forty five and change on the Harley. Can you tell I do it a few times a year or so? What other park would a dedicated Coaster Zombie ride past three other parks for? 😉

[McCormick & Company](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCormick_%26_Company) (spices) used to be in downtown Baltimore from 1889 to 1989, right on the waterfront; the whole Inner Harbor used to be aromatic (still is, but not in a good way). The plant’s gone, moved to Sparks, MD, modern facilities, blah, blah, blah.
