All this talk about calendars brings up clocks. Specially, why can’t we all be on the same clock? Why can’t it be 1 to 24 o’clock everywhere at the same time?
Because we don’t want the terminator between calendar days to fall somewhere during the middle of a solar day. It’s convenient to have that happen when most people are asleep or at least in a period of lower or non-essential activity.
