# Things that dopers overstate

Here are some positions that I basically agree with, but that dopers VASTLY overstate the truth of, importance of, pitworthiness of, or what have you:
-Cell phones are annoying
-Smilies are annoying
-Hardcore fans of (Joss Whedon is the most common one, but just about anything there can be hardcore fans of) are annoying
-Using doper cliches is annoying
-Atheists are sometimes unpleasant about it
- **The Simpsons** isn’t as good as it once was
- **ER** isn’t as good as it once was
- **Saturday Night Live** isn’t as good as it once was

George W. Bush is about ten billion times worse than the worst thing ever to happen to the country, and the only way we’re ever going to even have a tiny chance of recovering is if Democrats win the presidency for the next 25 consecutive terms.

Are people believing that the dope is populated by a group of near geniuses or just a group with above average in intelligence on average?
If the first, then I will laugh with you, if the second, I think the dope is populated by people with above average intelligence.

This is extremely hard to overstate. Maybe we do overstate it, but not by much!
I think there are plenty of Dopers who overstate their sensitivity to certain situations. I won’t go into specifics, I’m sure I’ve done it myself. But honestly, pick a situation someone could theoretically complain about, and some other Doper will come along and whine about how they absolutely can’t change the way they do things–due to a medical condition, their job, their exquisite taste, or what have you. And the thread gets utterly ridiculous as everyone tried to top the last person.

I agree. I don’t think they know what an alternate universe version of this board consisting of people with “average intelligence” would look like. Average intelligence lets you get through life safely as long as you follow the rules that other set out. It doesn’t let you talk about quantum physics or astrophysics or dive deep inside the most inane thing at will.
Sorry, no. It doesnt work that way. I am above average intelligence in the ways that those things are most commonly measured. I feel uncomfortable when I am surrounded by people that are not. This is not one of those places.

Is it really possible to overstate the annoyingness of telemarketers? Because seriously, in my opinion they should all get honest jobs like prostitution or crack-dealing.

Dopers tend to overstate everything. You will very rarely encounter a doper advocating a position and not making it sound like the end all and be all of civilization and the continued existance of the universe. That’s part of the fun though. 😉
