Actually, toasters HAVE changed a little. Not in fifty years or so, is all. Models from the '20s and '30s (and possibly later, I’m not a toasterologist
) have a heating element inside a narrow vertical thingamajiggy, and fold-down sides that hold the bread. You had to switch the bread around to toast both sides, I think. Still the same idea - really, toasting bread can’t get TOO weird - but different ways of implementing it.example
