But inevitably, despite selecting only part of the filename (the part I want to modify), File Explorer automatically expands the selection to select the entire filename. But it doesn’t do it right away. No, there is a slight delay where it selects the whole filename _right as I start typing_, thereby deleting all of the existing text in the file name. So I have to hit “undo” and try again.

No idea. I just did a search to see if there is any setting I could change to fix this, but didn’t find anything. I did confirm that I do **not** have ClickLock selected under “Mouse Properties.”

What happens is I select part of a filename, confirm that only one part of is selected (i.e. highlighted), and after a slight delay it will automatically select the whole filename—usually right as I start to type, which deletes the whole filename. I just checked to see if it is still doing this, and it is.

I do see that it only does this when I select the last part or last word in the filename (including the word “copy”). And the end of the filename is what I’m usually modifying.

Similarly with Windows and most common in MS Office are the non-responsive button-selects from the GUI. Annoyingly often the GUI will show the graphic response of a button element being clicked, but with no response, requiring a re-select. It happens more when working/clicking quickly. I think it is also a case of the OS being busy doing something else, so a select occasionally gets ignored. In comparison, I have had several linux laptops that ‘just work’ for the GUI-to-function piece of the process.

I remember this happening all the time in Word. I would carefully select part of a word, and then when I let go of the mouse button, Word would “helpfully” expand my selection to include the entire word. No, you stupid piece of shit, that is not what I want! As I recall, I finally gave up trying to figure out how to turn this nonsense off, and only used the keyboard for selecting.

All of this little kind of crap from Microsoft built up over the years, and finally and pushed me over the edge… into Linux. 🙂

Why do my boxer shorts come in a re-sealable zip top bag but my cereal doesn’t? I don’t particularly care if my new undies are “fresh” since they’re new.

I’m annoyed (perhaps not infuriated) when people say “And also…”

It’s redundant _and_ it’s saying the same thing twice.

We are experiencing extremely heavier than average wait times. Every place all of the time.

Please listen carefully as our menu options have changed. I need to have that job. The person who is changing the menu options that have been the same for the past 5 years.

I just checked and our store IVR main menu message hasn’t changed since 2016. But it does indeed say “Listen carefully as our menu options have changed”

Note that I don’t know how long it has been since the menu options have changed. We replaced our telecoms system in 2016 (I want working here at the time). It’s possible that the menu options haven’t changed since the 20th century. It’s the grocery business, the things callers need doesn’t change. They need the pharmacy, a local manager, centralized customer support or store and pharmacy operating hours.

Got another one. We got PV solar installed. We where moving into the new house with the solar.

My wife had not retired yet. I was semi-retired and working from home, the new house. So they need to call me, the property owner that lives full time on the property. 'Cause I’m going to be the person that is ACTUALY HERE AND CAN HELP YOU. My wife is likely 110 miles away.

I asked FIVE times to make me the primary contact. But they couln’t figure that out. Sometimes I would get a call, but most times it would be my wife and she would have to forward it to me. Sometimes an email, sometimes a text.

So my wife and I had to juggle all of their ‘communications’. ‘Did you get…’
Drove us crazy.

Something similar - We have three large dogs that need to be corralled into their crates or in a bedroom when the cable guy comes. When I make the appointment I always say, “Please have them call me when they’re on there way. We have dogs that need to be crated.” Every single time, they just show up. I’ll say something like, “Oh, you were supposed to call before you got here so I could crate the dogs.” The guy says one of two things, “I was across the street, so I just came over.” or “No one told me”. This is as the dogs are going ballistic, trying to get to the door. They aren’t vicious, just annoying and loud. Once they know someone is at the door, it’s near impossible to get them in their crates. UGH

Similarly, we frequently get grocery deliveries from Safeway. In the “Additional instructions” field on the checkout page, we always tell them to ring the doorbell when the delivery arrives. They almost never do that. Yesterday I opened my front door to find that the delivery had arrived some time in the past, and included a pint of melted ice cream soup.

That’s why I want them to give me a heads up when they’re on their way. If they’d give me five minutes, I’d be able to crate them or put them in a bedroom and close the door. They say they’ll arrive between 8am and 12pm. I can’t close the dogs up for 4 hours. I just need a phone call when they’re close by.
