Listening to someone munching on a snack during a Zoom meeting really grinds me. Especially since I have to listen for work purposes.

I’m pretty sure that’s what it was meant to be. Or maybe a charcuterie board.

That’s like those YouTube folks who slurp their beverages close to the mic (I think I mentioned that up-thread). For some reason that makes my skin crawl.

I sorta cringe every time I hear someone sneeze. Because someone will inevitably yell, “Bless you!” And the the person who sneezed says “Thanks,” because it’s obligatory to do so. It’s all so pointless and needs to stop.

Yeah, that’s what I was going to say. Are you sure it was meant for cutting and not for serving cheese, meats, etc?

Even if the engraving was not deep or was filled with epoxy, after a while all the knife scratches would ruin the image. Better to use it for serving

ETA: if you are going to use the board for food, best to oil it first to make it more stain resistant

I key-map “right Caps Lock” to “Shift” on both Mac & PC, because I hit it so often by mistake.

I do a fair amount of SQL programming, which by convention is upper case, “Caps lock” is nice to have on occasion. Rare, rare occasion compared to everyone else.

The ones made by Apple aren’t necessarily all that great either.

Can’t you use the other side of it? Or did they engrave both sides?

I have a cutting board painted on one side. I just use the other side.

Well, it’s got ‘groves’ or ‘gutters’ cut into the edges to use to scape of stems and seeds. Won’t be there if I flip it.

Nah. New garage has epoxy floors (never had them. Or a garage) but I’ve plenty to do at new house.

Oh, it will be. It’s memories. I should date it on the back and write who sent it to us.

Our existing house has a lot of art on the walls, so we are slowly trying to figure out where to put it. So far, we have figured out places for 5 pieces. All of them important to us.

I still have hundreds of pages of handwritten notes I wrote with a rubber-tipped stylus in notepad apps on my iPad years before the Apple Pencil was introduced, and those notes are every bit as clear as if I had written them with pen and paper. There may be crappy apps out there, but the hardware and OS have always been a cut above the rest, IMHO.

Those point-of-sale touch displays just suck.

Not talking about that. Talking about using a touchscreen, in various apps, with my fingers. Or, often, trying to.

Maybe they’re just there for decoration. I’ve used lots of cutting boards that had no such things; just flat on the cutting side (or sides).

Fair 'nuff. Can we at least agree that fast food kiosks are an order of magnitude worse than any tablet we would buy ourselves? Even if they are spotlessly clean, they are still terrible.

I have effectively no personal evidence of that but am quite willing to not argue about it. (I’m generally too broke to eat out, and when I do we still have local indy diners around here. Which, at least when I was last in one, haven’t so far gone in for kiosks.) – I did eventually learn how to figure out the sign-in one at my primary care office, though the first time I had to pull a live human out of their window space to explain it to me. That one does seem to respond pretty reliably to touch, once you figure out where you have to touch it.

ETA: The check in screen for the hospital lab, which just produces a number (and, I suppose, alerts somebody that it has done so) has a large sign on it telling you where to touch it, as if you touch it where it appears to tell you to it usually doesn’t work.

I’ve used lots too. None have these ‘gutters’ to collect little bits. Seems like a darn good idea really. Especially if you don’t or can’t toss it in the sink, or want to use it for compost.

The gutters also collect blood and other liquids if you’re working with meat or juicy things. I’ve always assumed that was their primary function.

Not blood- it is myoglobin- mostly.

Yeah, that’s what I always thought they were for. But they’re more palatable (for me) on porcelain/ceramic platters. No matter how well sealed wooden cutting boards always make me a little fearful when cutting meat.

Why shouldn’t I thank someone for praying that my soul won’t escape out of my nose? I think it’s a very nice gesture.

OP here, and I’m back with a new one.
I hate when organizations/people nag me for reviews! I just had some minor work done on my car, and my “service advisor” started to pester me to leave 5-star reviews (since anything else’s is considered a failure.)

Irritating as hell.

I hate it when stores nag me to review every random item I buy from them. Like I bought a replacement flapper for my toilet from Lowe’s, and because I’m a member of their loyalty program they’ve got my email address, so they keep sending me emails nagging me to review it. What the heck am I supposed to say about a toilet flapper? I does what it’s supposed to do.
