It’s very surprising and awesome. I am finding out where I’m staying tomorrow and then I am going to look up all the things in this thread and make my plan.
I probably will not go out to eat very much but I will probably print the thread in case I get hungry for waffles. I was trying to remember where I heard of the Chicken and Waffles thing before but then I realized it was in Deuce Bigalow, European Gigalo. I thought it was a made up thing. It brings up disturbing questions about what else in that movie might not be made up.
Some of do happen to be in the area! I’ve never tried Disneyland alone - at least, not when I was trying to go on rides instead of just wandering around the place, but if you need a local guide to tell you colorful stories (“Now see this here rocket ride; it used to be three stories high and Saturn-V inspired, not this Jules Verne stuff you see nowadays.”) I’m sure you could find someone [hint hint].
Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Chinatown doesn’t offer much in the way of actual entertainment. She could take the Red Line to the Dresden (on Vermont, just a couple of blocks north of Sunset) and see the infamous Marty & Elayne (their so-bad-it’s-great rendition of “Stayin’ Alive” was featured in Swingers), but that’s a long trip by rail for a fairly modest entertainment (though if you do make the trip, I recommend eating at Fred 62, one more block up; good food, interesting interior, great place for people watching, especially around bar time.)
Downtown does have a few places of interest, but only if your interest involves intoxicating beverages. Other than that, it’s pretty much a Forbidden Zone as far as entertainment.
You can also take the Red Line up to Hollywood and Vine and walk around the Hollywood District; you know, the stars in the sidewalk, the overpriced bars, the clubs with three hours waits, the homeless and inebriated…okay, so it ain’t all that great. Personally, I’d go down to the beach and enjoy the sunset at one of the eating and drinking establishments down there.
Read the OP. They’ll have the weekend free; surely you’re not suggesting they go to Disneyland on a weekend. He/She could get the same experience the hotel room by standing up for five hours, moving a couple inches forward every few minutes.
To the OP: If you like coffee, make sure you get to a Diedrich’s while you’re in OC.
I was in Vancouver earlier this year and loved it.
That’s some excellent imagery there. Hilarious and mostly true… except for Sunday mornings at Disneyland. I’ve been a season ticket holder for a while, and that’s almost exclusively when I will go. Yes, it get crazier as the day wears on, but if you get there when it opens, you’ll get onto most rides pretty quickly.
Unfortunately, this weekend will probably be the exception to the rule because it’s a three-day weekend. :smack:
