Things to do in Oahu

I remember seeing that when I was a kid while visiting some friends stationed at Hickam AFB. What he didn’t mention was that this fort includes a display of a 14 inch gun (that’s 14 inches across the opening of the barrel) that was installed there to serve as part of a shore battery defending Oahu from sea attack between 1911 and the 1950’s. The whole gun is designed to be loaded inside of a silo/bunker thing, then is lifted with an elevator out of the silo so it can be fired, then dropped back down again. If it ever saw combat, this thing would have been a downright terror for anyone who had to fight it without air support.

I’m not sure if you can get near to the channel without being on a military base, but if you get a chance, definitely spend some time ship-watching there. You can see all sorts of freighters and Navy ships and Coast Guard cutters and such moving in and out, which is quite cool.

Thanks all for the great suggestions. We’re back home now and we had a fantastic time. I’m working on getting pics up, some are on my facebook page (random mobile uploads) and I’ll get others in a gallery somewhere. I just have to remember which hosting site I have an account on.

Luau-wise we skipped the PCC because the Mormon influence was more then we felt like dealing with (I mean come on, no alcohol on the premises and caffeinated drinks only on special request?) and went with the paradise cove one instead. It was cheesy, touristy and a hell of a good time. Diamond head, Hanauma, Waikiki aquarium and lots other great activities as well.

But the real question: how were the boys? Beautiful and tanned?

Glad you guys had a great trip!

Oh my yes. It seemed like at least half of the gorgeous boys spent their time in just their swim trunks all up and down Waikiki. And I got a shot of the luau dancers for you.
