Woo Hoo! First on 7!
eta
having said that
I have remote start on my car, so I went upstairs around 3:30 to start the car - I’d left the defroster on full blast/high heat. But it took several tried to get it to start. It finally did. I went up again around 4:15 to start it again (it only runs about 15 minutes at a stretch) and again had trouble - I don;t know if it’s the remote (which worked like a charm this morning) or a result of the old, icy gunk piling up on the hood. \<sigh\> I hate this kind of weather so veryveryveryvery much.

I’m back from trying to find an infant carseat. You know, mandated by law? Two different big stores. First one, only unimpressive floor models, two types. None in boxes. The handle didn’t work on one, and the cover was permanently falling off the other. No salespeople within shouting distance.

Second store, one infant seat, which ‘they don’t have in stock’. And a salesgirl from the next department over who a)didn’t know anything about carseats, and b)was extremely surprised that there are carseats produced that don’t come as part of an expensive Travel System.

If you don’t have that in stock, what is that carseat sitting right there? Is it not a carseat? No, apparently not.

They had about fifteen different types of carseat for older kids at both places. I don’t get it. Look, guys, this is required by law. Why aren’t there any available? When you have 20 different types of veggie rusks and toy sanitizers and stupid crap?
Trying again next week. I will not have this baby until I’ve found a carseat. Perhaps they’re trying to suggest I walk home from the hospital.

do you have a Babies-R-Us near you? if not, try on line. Parego (or however that’s spelled) must have an on line store, too.

Home now. Tired. ::waves and heads off to the couch::
ETA:

Oh yeah, there are a couple of things that I’ve been wanting to know. First of all, just exactly what is an ‘Attacks Husband’? Second, and I’m sure that I’ll go :smack: when you tell me, but what is “d&r” ?

Thanks.

Okay, I just had a really freaky thing happen a little while ago. A phone call came through, no name on the caller ID, so I figured I’d let it go to voicemail and if it was legitimate I’d return the call. Well, it was a woman from our insurance company, USAA – which is a HUGE company – needing me to call back about something. No problem; she left the main call-in number, which gets routed to call centers all over the US. Have I mentioned before that this company is HUGE?

So I return the call. Get to the main voice recognition system, go through the various levels, and am routed to the right department to hold for “the next available CSR.” So far, nothing unusual. Right?

Except when I get a human and give her my name and start to explain why I’m calling, there’s this hushed pause, and then she says, _“I’m the person who just called you.”_ And then we both sat there and freaked for a few minutes about what the odds of that are. Frankly, I’m not sure I even want to calculate them, except that I suspect it’s more likely that I’d get hit on the head by a meteor! Seriously, it’s about the equivalent of returning a call from a random person at Dell and getting routed to that person’s phone at random. Un-frickin’-believable! That definitely counts as my #1 coincidence for 2007!

I’m sorry to hear Joe Dawg is suffering so badly, **Swampy**. You be sure that he doesn’t get too miserable with all those treats and couch time, okay? We wouldn’t want the poor little thing to pine away from unhappiness.

😃

I forgot to mention, Dotty, what an absolutely adorable doll baby **HRH** is! It’s really not fair to everyone else that Doper babies and grandbabies are the cutest babies in the world!

I’ve not gotten _nearly_ as much work done today as I need to. I foresee a late night in my future. Sigh. Back to trying to get something done. ☹

I asked about **LiLi** ’s various husbands once myself, **Cutie** , but never got a response. As far as I can figure, all the men in her life are some version of husband – Attacks Husband, Driving Husband, etc. Based on what they do best, I guess. I think maybe Attacks Husband does martial arts? Anyway, maybe someone who’s better informed can answer.

D&R, though, is easy: Ducking & Running.

Chicken is rotissing. Rice crispy squares with a little leftover caramel tossed in are cooling on the counter. Dishwasher is washing dishes. Doggies have pooped (outside.) \*\*FCD \*\* should be home in half an hour or so. Still thinking about that laundry. Not thinking too hard, tho, since we’ve got clothes to wear to work tomorrow. Still…

It’s starting to smell good in here - that chickie rub is really yummmmmmmm. I supposed I should think about side dishes. Sugar snap peas? And maybe corn? That’s doable.

Wee, it’s almost Firday!!! 🙂

**Sean** , thanks for the explanation about the second marriage - my bad for mis-interpreting because I thought you meant it was the second time to each other! :smack:

Well, tomorrow is pay day and I thought I’d get the performance appraisal bonus, but I guess it didn’t get processed in time. ☹ That’s bad, because I was going to use some of it to purchase presents with! I do have a bit saved up for that purpose, and now they’re going to have to all be squeezed out of that. Oh well! Or I could just wait until the extra bucks do come in, and purchase stuff then, when it might even be less expensive … hmmm… well, I’ll see about that.

The Super Granny 4 game is quite nice! _laughs_ I played out my entire free hour all at once, though, so we’ll be purchasing that with some of that savings. 😛 I’m going to shop online for gifts for my father and brothers over the weekend; I’ll have them shipped directly to them all and it will all be a surprise, hopefully. Just a little something for each of them and their families.

I so hope that this storm doesn’t come in until Saturday evening. I’m also planning to get to the mall and do a bit of shopping on Saturday morning!!

Hugs to all who need them. 🙂

Pre-Christmas sales are nice. I ordered Papa Tiger some lovely things last night from an online retailer that keeps sending me emails upping the ante to get me to order. This one was for 20% off items already on sale, plus free shipping.

I really, really should be working. Can somebody please yell at me to get my behind in gear?

</div>

The short answer is that I collect husbands. 😃 Ah, here’s the post explaining it. I saved it.

> [@](#):
>
> I started out with only one husband- Mr. Lissar, to whom I am legally married. (Or would be if stupid minister, Best Friend, and Best Man had thought to check the name on the wedding certificate  but that’s another story). But during the wedding celebrations Mr. Lissar’s Second-Best Man kept hugging both of us, and saying, “oh, I’m so glad the three of us will be together forever now! What a good idea for us all to get married!”, and stuff like that. So, because he’s very very very smart (although deluded), he became Intellectual Husband.
>
> Driving Husband, the friend who introduced us, started referring to me as The Wife shortly after Mr. Lissar and I got married. He figured he must be my husband, because he got stuck with driving me around. And he comes over and takes naps and eats our food and drinks our booze. Basically a husband.
>
> Then I proposed to Dishwashing Husband because he came over _and spontaneously did all the dishes!_
>
> After that the guys (being Mr. Lissar, Dishwashing Husband, and Driving Husband) decided I should marry the only Saturday-night-video-game-and-pizza-group guy I wasn’t married to. Unfortunately he’s not useful. So I acquired Lazy Husband.
>
> **Exgineer** thought that I should have a Lazy American Husband to go with Lazy Canadian Husband, so he proposed, and he met my stringent requirements 😃 although he hasn’t sent me any chocolate yet.
>
> Attacks Things Randomly Husband started out as Friend From Work. I met him a few years ago, and he got voted into position after he started spending four evenings a week hanging out with us. And Attacks Husband sounds so much better than Friend From Work, don’t you think? Besides, he doesn’t work with me anymore.
>
> It is a joke, but it’s a complicated one. Husband is more or less my title for my close guy friends. Mr. Lissar is so trusting.

Driving Husband ( **Quasi-Daughter’s** boyfriend and no she hasn’t said yes yet) work(ed) with me, he started at my work last fall.

There’s only one Babies’R’Us anywhere in the even sort of near area, and it means either driving straight downtown in the Christmas rush or taking a fifty-minute subway ride carrying the carseat back. I’m leery of ordering online right before Christmas- if I can possibly find one physically near I’ll take it. Since I’m considered full-term next Tuesday I don’t want a two or three week shipping time. I’m going through the phonebook tomorrow and tracking down places that sell them, and checking their stock.

Time to put away the spiced nut brittle and tidy the kitchen a bit from candymaking.

_ETA:_ I have at least eight. I also acquired one of the senseis (plural of sensei?) at Mr. Lissar’s dojo, because he wants to be married to me. And **scout** , who used to hang out with us, wanted to be Husband Who’s A Girl. And there are probably others I don’t remember.

Definitely a hussy. But a hussy that everyone wants to marry! 😃

I can’t yell at people older than me. My ancestors would rise from their graves and do something medieval and sadistic to me. I think there was that one king who locked his son up in a box and starved him to death. Why are royal families always batshit insane?

I digress. Muffins were slightly burnt but stil edible. I shall have them with jam, and no one can stop me.

Eh, my ancestors don’t even have that excuse - long before they came into power (early 14th century, I think), marrying someone from the same house (clan, whatever) was against the law.

Just reporting in to say supper was yummmerific! Dang, I’m good! 😃 Also full as is ol’ y’all know who. I think he’ll really miss all this once I get back into the workforce. It’s his fault. He should make lots of money and allow me to stay home and fulfill the role of Domestic God.

**BioTigs** I know it’s mean of me to be so strict with JoeDawg (who just growled at ol’ y’all know who) but I feel that it’s my job to make sure he is not spoiled rotten. Discipline is the key to ensuring that. Matter of fact, he _will_ have lap and love the dawg time in just a little while. It’s for his own good.

Thanks.

I’m a bit aggravated right now. My former business partner called me to say that she was sorry about the complaints about the food that I delivered where she now works. And I said, ‘what complaints.’ They had chicken and ham green beans, potatoes, and rolls. Apparently they ran out of chicken and potatoes. I knew this already and it is unfortunately beyond my control. However, now a person who didn’t even go to the lunch has said that everything was awful and people were demanding refunds. Really? No one notified me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sorry that they ran low. But I don’t think that it’s my fault that everyone wanted to eat chicken instead of ham. At a buffet with two meats, you don’t normally send 1 serving of each meat per person. That would be way too much food and also increase the cost. Also, I didn’t personally do the potatoes, but it’s kind of funny to me because the potatoes were an afterthought, they didn’t even want a starch to begin with. I’ll have to talk to my chef about the potatoes, but normally she bumps up the serving size because everybody _likes_ potatoes. She’s been in the business for 20+ years and I trust her. Aaack. Oh well. Nothing much I guess that I can do about it now. Especially since all I’ve gotten is unverifiable rumors. (Note that former business partner did not attend the lunch herself.)

I see you’re in Canada - can you order things from [amazon.com](http://amazon.com)? Just wondering as amazon.ca seems to be books and movies only, whereas [amazon.com](http://amazon.com) is anything you could imagine, and they have tons of car seats. Of course, I don’t know if the two-day shipping would be valid from their warehouse in Nevada to your location in Toronto. If you can’t make the shipping work, you can at least browse the offerings at [amazon.com](http://amazon.com) to see user reviews.

Peg Perego is well-regarded, but holy harmonicas, they’re expensive! Yes, your baby will be the most precious thing in your world, but is Peg Perego really four or five times better than Graco? And don’t dismiss the “travel systems” too quickly. You’re going to be buying a stroller, yes? A lot of these are cheaper than a car seat alone from Peg. At a quick look, you’ll need a “toddler” car seat later on - the car seat is for up to something like 22 pounds, but the stroller’s good for up to 40 pounds and/or 4 years.

The neat thing about the travel systems is you can leave the kidlet all snug and (you hope!) snoozing away in the car seat part and effortlessly transfer them into the stroller without having to unbuckle everything, wake them up, get them all riled up, try to calm them down, move them to another thing, and get the straps around them between flailing arms and legs.

Excellent news from work. They are going to pay me through January 4, using various and assorted means, to circumvent the fact that I’m not eligible for short term disability yet. That’s 3 weeks with pay and benefits fully paid. Even if it’s not enough to cover how long I need to be out, state disability will have kicked in by that time. It’s also helpful to delay taking a leave, since you don’t accrue vacation or tenure while on leave. I really thought I was going to cry while I was on the phone with the HR rep. This is a deal that my bosses worked out, certainly not something I anticipated. A far cry from my former boss telling me, _while I was in the hospital_, that it might be best if I didn’t come back.

I’m trying to finish an expense report before I go, and I finally got the beast completed, then realized I needed to delete a line before I submitted it. So I clicked “Delete Report”. :smack: Yep, the whole report went bye-bye, so I get to do it over again.
