This happens sometimes with European tourists in the US. Stories abound of tourists from E.g. the Netherlands or Belgium who expect to rent a car in NYC and take a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Ain’t possible. It’s not just that it’s over a thousand miles of driving, it’s hundreds of miles of wilderness and desert driving. Bring water. I’m so seriously.

We’ve done that thread here umpteen times. A European, or even a US New Englander is visiting the US southwest for the first time and wants advice on places to visit on day trips from Los Angeles or Phoenix, with ideas of seeing the Grand Canyon or Salt Lake City or both.

Heck, in a jet at cruise it takes 90+ minutes to go the width of just Texas.

Yeppers, we had guys from Alabama arrive at our SF bay area office, and they wanted to day trip Disneyland after work. They goggled at the 5-7 hour drive. :eek:

The 5-7 hour drive to go just over 50% of the height of California. Doing the whole state from end to end (without traffic (fat chance)) is close to 14.
