Sorry, that link was wrong – only two of the three items are available there. I meant to use this link. Follow the links to the confectionary section – I can’t link to it directly since it is a sub-window.
Serves me right for not double-checking the link while calling someone else wrong! :o
True. I’ve seen the shops. They not only sell used undies, but complete school uniforms, school?issue swimsuits, and uniforms worn by OLs (Japanese secretaries, who are a fetish subject second only to schoolgirls here).
there are newspapers in vending machines all over the place here! lots of street corners have em!
lots of different kind of tea too, whether you like it with or without milk.
can’t get:
kinder surprise (big wail of sorrow)
haribo peach gummies
real cheese (the non-pasteurized kind like brie and camembert)
yop (drinkable yoghurt)
on the flip side, the milk here is a lot better than the boxed crap they have in france. same goes for orange juice. had to buy sunny d over there (and i’ve never even drunk it when i was here!)
oh, and europe can keep it’s version of fanta. the thought of that light stuff makes me sick now…i think i overdosed on it. i began to get cravings for the toxic-colored minite maid orange when i was living there, because all there was was coke, sprite, fanta (orange or lemon) and gini (which i do miss)
MattK mentioned it, but I wish to emebellish: Brause Brocken by Hanover!
They are little squares of flavored (**what,**Matt?) candy? which effervesces in your mouth and you can get the Hanover brand in Germany , as far as I know. My favorite flavor is Waldmeister.
Oh and I must mention the Schneeballen (Snowballs) a donut-like confection found in Rothenburg ob der Tauber my home town!
Also, I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but the Weinbrandbohnen (brandy-filled chocolate beans) are also a delight and one I could only find in Germany. I give them as Christmas gifts.
I don’t know if it just a West Coast thing, but we have quite a few of the conveyor belt sushi retaurants. Most Japanese restaurants here offer green tea ice cream and we even get mochi at the grocery stores.
Quasimodem, Waldmeister rules! I never had the Hanover brand ones, but I guess they are similar. Frigo has squares, little candies and the regular little pouches with the powder stuff. Sometimes I eat so much of it my mouth hurts.
