I hate that trend in movies too. My husband always seems to want to watch a movie while we’re eating dinner and it’s gotten to the point that I have to ask, “Is there going to be puking within the first half-hour of this movie?” Even sometimes when we think it’s going to be safe it’s not. But I’ll stop my “I hate puke” hijack now. I’ve seen a pukey smiley like the one you’re talking about and I have no objections to it. ---

I believe in being (relatively) well-behaved in the other forums, so it’s handy to have a place like the Pit, where you can come out and say what you want, without having to resort to that kind of communication…where you KNOW you are getting your point across, but if someone calls you out on it, you can easily still say that’s not what you meant. ---

I have seen people highly critical of the USA. I have seen people highly critical of the way that our nation has recently seemed to be moving away from many of the freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution. I have not seen any “blind hatred” of the USA. Perhaps I am not reading the right threads. I would be interested in someone linking to any of this “blind hatred” if they can find it. On preview I must consider that **Plan B** ’s post contained a typo and he/she actually meant to type _“blind hatred of the US **by** the POTUS.”_ However, I think this is a somewhat unlikely consideration. Still-- “benefit of the doubt” and that sort of thing. ---

Oh, and related to what **I Love Me** , wrote, I honestly can’t recall how many times I’ve made clear that, by and large, I LOVE the US and its culture. It’s really no accident I married two Americans and my only child is a born and bred one whom I often visit. Hardly what one would expect from someone that “hated” a nation. Though I must say going through customs now a days, harks back to what I had in mind going into the iron curtain. Of course, surgical gloves when they fondle your balls are a great improvement. ---

Fat chance (literally), got a three hundred pound bear. But If I’m going to be totally honest, a very professional and gentle one at that. He even forewarned me: “Sir, I going to have to feel your scrotum.” Kind of threw me he even knew the word. Hell, what’s next? A lap-dance? Do wonders for the sagging US tourist industry. ---

I am irked by opportunism — Poster\_A taking a cheap shot at Poster\_B because Poster\_B is such an easy target. It’s made all the worse when Poster\_A’s cleaver wit is acknowledged by attention-deprived Poster\_C. And then it hits the pinnacle of shittiness when Poster\_B responds to Poster\_C with an aw-shucks, toe-tapping thanks. (Not a typo on the “cleaver”.) ---

[/QUOTE] A very nice poster pulled my coat about this very issue. He very nicely told me that when I do it, it makes it hard to follow my posts. Then he showed me how to quote properly! (I really didn’t know.) He did it all without making me feel stupid in front of all the other posters on the board. Posters like him are what I like about this board. But this thread is about what we hate about this board, so I will add that I hate when I am all absorbed in a debate in Great Debates, and then all of a sudden it goes way over my head. I will be happily reading along about something that seems I can keep up with from a philosophical standpoint and then…BOOM! The thread is knee deep in math and science. But then again…that is something I love about this board too. ---

I wish the Dope had more collective self-control: when a poster attempts to derail an interesting thread, either to 1) express an unrelated obsession (i.e. Bush Sux), 2) chastise other posters en masse for perceived bad manners or 3) to gain desperately needed attention (#3 is often behind #s 1 and 2) - it’d be nice to see the discussion roll on without acknowledging them. For instance: on another board recently there was an energetic and occasionally vituperative (mild by Pit standards) debate that went for several hundred posts. In the midst of this pranced some woman who had not contributed an iota to the discussion, but now posted to wag her finger at everyone for being so _mean_ and _nasty_, and how she devoutly hoped that none of us lived near _her_. She was roundly and completely ignored, which must have irked her no end. It was beautiful. 🆒 ---

I hate it when a pile on starts while I’m offline and by the time I get to read and post it would look like I was only piling on when it was safe to do so. So, I just sit and watch for others to come in and pile on after others have made the water safe. Which seems to be rather pathetic. Unless you really have been offline all day and just now saw it.
