I dislike nothing about the SDMB. I am a lover of the First Amendment. No, actually, if I weren’t Episcopalian (of the born-again but still slightly ambivalent persuasion) I’d absolutely worship the First Amendment. While I doubt that any of the founders of our nation ever envisioned the Internet, I know in my heart this is what they had in mind when they wrote the First Amendment. We can be wise, we can be fools, we can post photos of kitties, pour out our hearts, debate the most important issues of the day, call each other names, be as civilized or crass and dastardly as we want to be; the boundaries are NOT set by the government, but by our fellow Dopers, moderators and otherwise. The SDMB is perfect in every way. ---

(1) The elitist attitude towards anything popular, particularly in a Cafe Society context. See the recent “actors whose name in the credits automatically means the movie will suck” thread. (2) Typing up a long and thoughtful and perhaps a bit controversial post presenting what I think is a novel or challenging or interesting or combative opinion… and no one response. GRRRRRRR! ---

The incessant uses of Wikipedia to a question of “what about blah blah blah”. I \*\*get \*\*it - Wikipedia is out there. Its use is widespread. But it’s no more reviewed or regulated than Google, so why would you ever tell me to use one and not the other? ---

I was wondering what you had against similes and if you would soon take up arms against hyperbole, acrostics, and alliteration! ---

This one may be kind of hard to express… The “established” members get rather cliquish, IMO. It seems that some of the newer members, or guests, are pretty invisible. I find myself going through looking for posts that have little or no replys and seeing if there is _anything_ I can contribute, just to let folks know that they’ve been noticed. Seems like the only way to get anybody’s attention is to come in like a herd of wildebeest in your first week, and that ain’t everybody’s style. Please remember that guests and “newbies” can be useful members of the SDMB, too. (I guess the threads that really point this out are the ones where someone will come in, and quote or comment to 12 out of 15 posters above them - that just seems… icky.) OK, so I always hated Valentines day at school, too. ---

I don’t know if these even rate as ‘dislikes,’ but here goes… \*Pedantics. I was recently reading some thread that a poster wanted the legal analyst involved to share their _opinion_, rather than exact professional knowledge. It was like having your teeth pulled. Needless to say, the desire wasn’t quenched. \*No matter what, I don’t understand anyone in a service oriented position, being snarky to an honest/innocent question. As someone whose worked enough retail, it makes no difference if it’s the forth or four hundredth time you’ve been asked where the restrooms are. You remain polite, or at the very least civil. Now I understand cracking wise with humor, so that’s copacetic. But the other stuff? Even when you find out that person wasn’t intending to come across as an asshole/playing dumb as a box of rocks/whatever. Uh huh for me. \*Pissy posters who don’t accept apologies, especially when it’s a sincere mistake. I suppose the fact that they’re pissy in the first place is the problem though. \*The opposite of the folks who ‘hate the anecdotes!’ Somebody generalizes really bad, then another Doper will come in, saying that they’re wrong and give an example as to why. Repeat, repeat, repeat as necessary. Follow that with even more going on about how you _just can’t say anything about the acceptability of club raping seals_ because it’s bizarro time with a vet here and their personal experience or some stupid shit. I know that’s really tenuous (or stupid), but I don’t know any better way to explain it and that’s miles above what I was initially planning. Really, occasionally there’s more than one way to view a situation. ---

[/QUOTE] While I agree with you both, I’ve searched and searched that thread cited as the example and couldn’t find anything. I even seached for the combination of “tr” and “dn” just to be sure. I came up with **tdn\*\*'s name a couple times, and s** tr**aight dope, but no trolls. ---
