Nearly all the foods mentioned in this thread are among my favorite:

Tuna, sashimi, dark chocolate, deviled eggs, boiled eggs, any kind of eggs, liver and onions, limburger cheese, microwave dinners, blue cheese, capers, liverwurst, okra, pate, basil, mustard (though I’m not too fond of turmeric-flavored French’s yellow mustard), ricotta cheese, kidneys, coconut, (non-black) coffee, (non-alcoholic) beer, licorice, blueberries, bananas, celery (raw and cooked), mayonnaise, bell peppers, onions, cabbage, chicken (although I find American chicken to be bland), rice, mushrooms, lobster, olives, asparagus, snails, turkey stuffing, sausage, oysters, fish roe, octopus and squid tentacles, guacamole, (not deep-fried) garden rolls, cilantro leaves, lamb, maraschino cherries, licorice

Foods mentioned that I don’t particularly like the taste of, but I’m not offended by them in any way:

Black coffee, water chestnuts, buttermilk, durian, squash

Foods mentioned that I find offensively flavorless:

Canned spinach, canned beets

Mayonnaise is mostly egg and oil. I don’t think that vinegar is a necessary ingredient in mayonnaise.

Hah! I used to work at LAX (Los Angeles airport) and we \*\*\*always \*\*\*knew when a shipment of durian had come in. Gah!

I love all of those things, although not combined. So it’s food because some people really like the way it tastes. Good thing you’re not the final arbiter of what people should eat.

The things I don’t like because of the taste are gin, liver and kidneys. I mostly hate Gin & Tonic, so it may be the tonic that I hate and not the gin. But I know plenty of people that like them so accept that it’s just me.

How timely that this thread has been bumped.

I just came home and found my 14 year old eating a cat food sandwich.

Oh sure, it was rectangular and the package said “SPAM” but I know cat food when I smell it!!

Hard boiled eggs, the smell turns my stomach. Scrambled, over easy, poached are all ok but hard boiled is just wrong.

Oh, calm down. That’s why I said “_My feeling is_ why are [capers] even food?”. As in, I’m acknowledging that this is just the way I personally feel about them. I wasn’t meaning to arbitrate what people eat. In fact, my wife happens to love them; I’m fine with that, as long as she doesn’t make me eat them.

When I was a really little kid I loved cantaloupe. As in - would enjoy getting it as a treat, especially at grandma’s house.

When I turned 7 or 8, a switch flipped. I have no idea why. Now cantaloupe tastes faintly nauseating to me and I avoid it. Same thing to a lesser extent with honeydew melon.

My other “no-go” food is peas. For whatever reason I just cannot stand the taste of them. The closest I can get is enjoying Wasabi peas, but that’s because I don’t taste the horrible pea flavor.

Fart sandwiches.

That’s what I call egg salad sandwiches. I love them, but they smell like a fart.

Pepperoni is pretty awful, man. I don’t know how people eat it. Ruins a good pizza. What’s wrong with good old fashioned pineapple, banana peppers, and jalapenos?

Cat food smells like canned fish, because that’s what it is. Same thing with dog food and canned meat.

I happened to look at the labels on some cans the other day. The ingredients list for a can of tuna was pretty long. The ingredients on the can of cat food were: tuna. That’s it. Just tuna.

Humans get the light meat, felines get the dark meat - otherwise, it’s the same stuff, but with a pile of additives in the human version.

I second you on the durian, almost.

The smell is enough to make your mouth clamp shut. If, however, you don’t inhale while eating it, the taste is delicious.

This assumes you are eating Singaporean or Malaysian durian. Otherwise, you are on your own.

I detest boiled eggs. They reek. I can’t even stand to be in the house when they’re being made. I insist that the wife turn on the fan when she boils one for the kid.

I generally don’t like fried or poached eggs, and I love omelets and scrambled eggs. But I’ve been known to move away from folks who pack a boiled egg for lunch, that’s how repulsive I find them.

My daughter eats capers for snacks. A tablespoon or two of them in a berry bowl.

I won’t eat eggs if I can smell the eggyness or eat dishes where the sauce tastes eggy. The answer to why else, other than flavor or smell, would you not eat something is texture. I dislike jello for that reason.

I hate the taste of blue cheese and blue cheese salad dressing. In fact, I don’t like most cheese in general except maybe Brie, mozzarella, and Swiss cheese, in small amounts.

I don’t like the taste of beer either. I tried to develop a taste for it in college, but just couldn’t enjoy it no matter how many different kinds I tried. I guess it’s because it tastes like bread, only sour.

Hamburger. I have to cook it at least 3 times a week, and I hate the grey ooze that leaks out, the fetid smell, and the half inch of grease I have to dispose of. Hate cooking them on the grill, they take forever and take up the whole space (but still shrink into hockey that are bloody inside). E coli, anybody? … Oddly enough, my favorite fast food is a Burger King Whopper.

Tomato juice, or V8. GAG! It just won’t go down. I feel like a vampire.
