The Other part is that, as I understand it, Lobster and other such things aren’t kosher, so Jews who keep kosher aren’t supposed to eat them (although, as I think they say in Portnoy’s Complaint, it doesn’t count on Christmas, when Jews go out to eat at Chinese restaurants, because the goyim are all eating at home that day. Or something)

Don’t you all remember when Zoidberg was denied entrance to the botmitzvah? “No shellfish!” SLAM

I didn’t notice, until I listened to the audiobook version and heard it pronounced out loud, that “Diagon Alley” in the Harry Potter books is a play on “diagonally”. And “Knockturn Alley” is a play on “nocturnally”.

And you see, to me, the joke was always that Dr. Zoidberg was such an omnivore. Doesn’t he attempt to eat Fry (or at least parts thereof) on more than one occasion?

I kept waiting to discover that his people kept “kosher-schmosher.”

From “To Kill A Mockingbird” when Scout is standing on Boo Radley’s porch:

> [@](#):
>
> A boy trudged down the sidewalk dragging a fishing pole behind him. A man stood waiting with his hands on his hips. Summertime, and his children played in the front yard with their friend, enacting a strange little drama of their own invention. It was fall, and his children fought on the sidewalk in front of Mrs. Dubose’s. . . . Fall, and his children trotted to and fro around the corner, the day’s woes and triumphs on their faces. They stopped at an oak tree, delighted, puzzled, apprehensive. Winter, and his children shivered at the front gate, silhouetted against a blazing house. Winter, and a man walked into the street, dropped his glasses, and shot a dog. Summer, and he watched his children’s heart break. Autumn again, and Boo’s children needed him

It took me many readings to realize Boo’s progression of his view: from “the” children" to “Atticus’s” children to “Boo’s” children.

Very well written

Recently I realized that when people say, “It’s always in the last place you look,” they mean that it is the last place you look because once you find the thing you are looking for, you stop looking. Doy.

Maybe I shouldn’t post this… it doesn’t make me look particularly bright, does it? Oh, well.

Huh. I always thought it meant that they’d spend the rest of their life not being able to turn you down for any favor you asked. Like the debt would never be **fully** repaid, but you were still entitled to draw on it.

Not on the hundreth time, but after quite a couple of viewings, I got this Arrested Development joke.

When Maebe is first shown and talking to George Michael, the nararrator says something like “This is his cousin, Maebe.”

I explained the joke to my girlfriend (Maebe’s alter ego is Shirley) several times. She still doesn’t get it.

I thought about making a flash card that said Maybe=Maebe, Surely = Shirley. But then I’d probably get in trouble.
While watching a rerun of a rerun of _Frasier_ I suddenly became aware that, whenever Frasier’s voice was on the radio in his condo, Eddie the dog sat facing the speakers with his head cocked like [Nipper from the old RCA Victor ads](http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~postr/MRT/NipprPl1.JPG&imgrefurl=http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~postr/MRT/NipprPl.htm&h=498&w=640&sz=99&hl=en&start=11&tbnid=1PuLXgpWuCfu1M:&tbnh=107&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dnipper%26gbv%3D2%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff).

Any other :smack: realizations?
I think it’s the -berg part.
If I remember producer David X. Cohen’s commentary correctly, he simply wanted to use the name Zoid from the video game "Zoids"which he played in college. And then he added -berg to that. With Cohen being jewish himself, it would be logical to draw the conclusion that it’s a jewish name, but fact remains that it’s a made up name through and through. And also that the doctor in question is a shellfish from a different culture.

But from what I understand, there are a number of insinuations on the fact that he \*is \*jewish. The constant alienation from the other crew members would be one of the hints.
And for interest, my last name is Sahlberg and I’m protestant.

2. The background for the pause screen in Resident Evil 3 is a microscopic view of green corpusles. (I think this may be in several other Resident Evil games too.)

I started another thread on this, but after a bazillion listens, I finally realized Rod Stewart was saying “You’re Celtic, United”. It was because of the SDMB that I realized why he might be saying that.

Usually each season finale would have a “Thanks to all our callers” sequence over the final credits, with pictures of each. They tended not to use celebs with instantly-recognizable voices, so that was a nice idea.
