Things you finally noticed after the 100th time

The Other part is that, as I understand it, Lobster and other such things aren’t kosher, so Jews who keep kosher aren’t supposed to eat them (although, as I think they say in Portnoy’s Complaint, it doesn’t count on Christmas, when Jews go out to eat at Chinese restaurants, because the goyim are all eating at home that day. Or something)

Don’t you all remember when Zoidberg was denied entrance to the botmitzvah? “No shellfish!” SLAM

I didn’t notice, until I listened to the audiobook version and heard it pronounced out loud, that “Diagon Alley” in the Harry Potter books is a play on “diagonally”. And “Knockturn Alley” is a play on “nocturnally”.

And you see, to me, the joke was always that Dr. Zoidberg was such an omnivore. Doesn’t he attempt to eat Fry (or at least parts thereof) on more than one occasion?

I kept waiting to discover that his people kept “kosher-schmosher.”

From “To Kill A Mockingbird” when Scout is standing on Boo Radley’s porch:

It took me many readings to realize Boo’s progression of his view: from “the” children" to “Atticus’s” children to “Boo’s” children.

Very well written

Oh. My. God.

I just realized that Simon & Simon is The Hardy Boys all growed up.

Recently I realized that when people say, “It’s always in the last place you look,” they mean that it is the last place you look because once you find the thing you are looking for, you stop looking. Doy.

Maybe I shouldn’t post this… it doesn’t make me look particularly bright, does it? Oh, well.

That’s okay, I had to explain to someone once that when they said “I will forever be in your debt” it meant that they wouldn’t be paying me back.

Huh. I always thought it meant that they’d spend the rest of their life not being able to turn you down for any favor you asked. Like the debt would never be fully repaid, but you were still entitled to draw on it.

Not on the hundreth time, but after quite a couple of viewings, I got this Arrested Development joke.

When Maebe is first shown and talking to George Michael, the nararrator says something like “This is his cousin, Maebe.”

Actually i believe he says “You are my cousin” and she responds “Maebe!”.

I don’t watch this show, but my brother says that at one point, Maebe decides she’d rather be called Shirley.

Then I hope you’ve noticed “Grim Old Place”.

:smack:

I explained the joke to my girlfriend (Maebe’s alter ego is Shirley) several times. She still doesn’t get it.

I thought about making a flash card that said Maybe=Maebe, Surely = Shirley. But then I’d probably get in trouble.

I simply didn’t know, until the last episode of Frasier, that many (or even all?) the callers were real celebrities or VIPS.

If I remember producer David X. Cohen’s commentary correctly, he simply wanted to use the name Zoid from the video game "Zoids"which he played in college. And then he added -berg to that. With Cohen being jewish himself, it would be logical to draw the conclusion that it’s a jewish name, but fact remains that it’s a made up name through and through. And also that the doctor in question is a shellfish from a different culture.

But from what I understand, there are a number of insinuations on the fact that he *is *jewish. The constant alienation from the other crew members would be one of the hints.
And for interest, my last name is Sahlberg and I’m protestant.

  1. If you replace the e in Eragon with a d it spells dragon
  2. The background for the pause screen in Resident Evil 3 is a microscopic view of green corpusles. (I think this may be in several other Resident Evil games too.)

I started another thread on this, but after a bazillion listens, I finally realized Rod Stewart was saying “You’re Celtic, United”. It was because of the SDMB that I realized why he might be saying that.

Just to prove the old cliche’ wrong, I will sometimes look in one more place after I find something.

Usually each season finale would have a “Thanks to all our callers” sequence over the final credits, with pictures of each. They tended not to use celebs with instantly-recognizable voices, so that was a nice idea.
