I don’t miss having somebody breathing down my neck in the checkout line. I have often resorted to putting my cart between me and the person behind me in line. I need the room to use the credit card pad without you stepping on me. Back the eff off! I like this six feet apart thing. Can we keep it? ---

Since MrsRico and I are mostly homebound anyway, there’s not much we don’t miss vs the bits we DO miss. Traffic on our rough mountain road has dropped from a dozen to a half-dozen vehicles daily but this is still the wet season so we haven’t a lot of road dust to miss. Fewer intruders, human or ursine, amble nearby, so I don’t miss neighbors’ dogs barking but I could just turn off my new hearing aids if they get bothersome. If I don’t want to miss, I’ll use a shotgun. ---

The NYC sky is remarkably clear and haze-free. There are very few people driving cars. Also, hardly any airplanes flying over. ---

Another “not missing the obscured sky” person. I went out to get the paper this morning and twilight was already well under way. Yet I could see stars. Almost as many as the darkest, clearest winter night. I’m going out tonight and look around when it’s good and dark. (Well, there is a fat Moon mucking things up. Maybe in a couple weeks it will be even better.) ---

Well, the traffic is fantastic, for one. I think I have to go back to the 80’s to recall a time when the streets were this clear. More than that, though, this is sweet vindication. Know how pretty everyone is admonishing us to all wash our hands, if we’re sick stay home, keep your distance, find something you can do at home, etc.? Well, none of this is a problem for me because _I’d already been doing that for most of my life._ For reasons I needn’t elaborate on, I go to the bathroom a lot, which means frequent hand washing, and I have oily skin so frequent face washing as well. My face is so bad, in fact, that I pretty much have to take a washcloth and bar of soap wherever I go. I’m not confrontational by nature, and I don’t do things like back-slaps chest bumps unless I’m _absolutely certain_ they’re okay with it. And my life pretty much since getting my current job…I say plainly, with neither bitterness nor haughtiness…has been my computer. Go figure, the Internet really opened up the world, and now humdrum amusements like nightclubs or movie theaters don’t appeal to me anymore. I mean, it’s sad that we as a nation need to be reminded of incredibly basic things like personal hygiene, respecting other people’s personal space, and having the one absolutely essential tool of the modern era, but it’s good to know that I’m already on base with all of that…and if the rest of the nation becomes more bearable as well, so much the better. ---

I don’t miss the pressure to be going out and doing something interesting all the time. This weekend I’m staying home and doing nothing. That’s often true even when there is no quarantine, but at least I don’t have people making me feel bad about it now. ---

I don’t miss hockey at all. No hockey coverage in the newspaper; no hockey on TV; no stupid/drunk hockey fans wandering the streets. Hopefully the stupid hockey team here folds, and I never need to hear about them again. ---
