To be fair even in movie that wouldn’t be an issue, if it is die or get hearing loss well what would the characters choose?

no matter what happens, if you are in a group, don’t stick together. Split up so you can be killed one at a time.

Unless you need to lose your hearing, like in a Fringe episode Sci was rerunning last night. Of course the hearing loss is only temporary and once it wears off Peter is completely back to normal hearing shortly thereafter despite a gun being shot directly next to one ear and then the other.
