Halvah. In 6th grade social studies, the once-a-week guest teacher brought some in. Everyone except me thought it was gross. I loved it and ended up getting most of the classes’ portions. Yum!!! ---

Music in foreign languages. Practallty all my play-list is music from foreign countries – which I can listen to for the arrangement, vocal predentation, etc. without beimg distracted by the lyrics. Working on MS Windows computers (both laptops and desktops). And I mean installing, configuring, troubleshooting, repairing hardware, etc., not just using them. Everybody I know groans and bitches whenever they have problems, but I think of it as a game. Can I figure out what the nutty MS coders intended? Can I zero in on a problem and fix it before I really, really need the machine working again? Can I make a functioning system out of my spare junk parts? It’s almost a hobby with me. OTOH, I hate being the “computer go-to guy” for friends and family. In those cases, it’s always the person, not the computer, I’m fighting. ---

Broccoli and Brussels sprouts. I can’t understand the hate, both are (cooked the right way) delicious. Going alone to the movies. I don’t know if it’s universal, but in my circles going to the movies is considered a social activity, and you go in groups or at least in pairs. I love going alone. ---

Bands like Creed and Nickelback have some good songs. I like grocery shopping, all the new options of things I’ve never tried. I like working second shift. Its an unpopular shift, but I like it. You get paid more, you get to stay up late and sleep in, traffic to/from work isn’t nearly as bad, and the workload is usually lower vs first shift. All the people here who enjoy doing housework are hereby invited to my apartment. ---

Wow. I am astonished at some of the things you guys enjoy doing. Taxes? Laundry?? House-cleaning??? Like, the actual process of doing these, and not just the finished product? Damn. I can think of two, one of which quite a few Dopers probably like but everyone in real life seems to hate, and the other of which all Dopers seem to hate, but there are probably other people in real life who also like it. 1. (The one Dopers hate) Gigantic muscles on a man. I find this aesthetically pleasing, and a sexual turn-on. 2. (The one people in real life seem to hate) I leave my phone at home whenever I walk my dog, and I love having that digital break built into my day. ---

I thought it just took us a few generations to figure out that roasted vegetables with butter and/or bacon taste better than boiled vegetables, and Brussels sprouts needed that help more than most other veggies. ---

I can’t say that “everyone hates” but that I get a helluva lot of static and disagreement from IRL people I know because I like: - Old B & W movies ( or even contemporary B&W movies ) - Foreign movies with subtitles - Quiet time for myself ( no, there’s nothing wrong, I just feel like chillin’ right now ) ---
